One Week Left of Raspberry Season!
Raspberry picking season is in full swing and has been for a couple weeks now with only a week or so left. How did I let that slip by me?
Check out pickyourown.org for the nearest U-Pick place around your area.
In the Portland area I called a few places and found the prices to vary quite a bit. One reason is that some fields are newer so it takes longer to pick, also some places are organic.
Here are a few of the places I called:
Albeke : Oregon City, $1.50/lb.
Bushue's: Boring, $.75/lb.
Hartnell's Farms: Clackamas, $1.50/lb. for 10 lb. or more.
Sleights Berry Farms: Mulino, $.80/lb.
Thompson Farms: Boring, $2/lb. (I think, it might have been $1.50) this farm is organic, I do know that.
It is usually best to call the farm the day before you want to pick to make sure they are open.
Also, don't forget to take your own containers.
I am looking forward to fresh raspberries, making freezer jam, freezing some for smoothies and making some baked goods out of these delicious berries.
Leave a comment if you have a favorite place to pick raspberries at!

We always pick at Rowell bros. Inc. off of Scholls ferry rd. They have blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, marionberries, black caps and I know that they have other berries too. All are 99 cents a lb. I think my kids eat more than they put in their buckets!
We just discovered West Union Gardens off of West Union just north of Tanasborne. They have red currant, raspberries, tayberries, and lots of others. We got a VERY full half crate for about $6 and, bonus, they accept the WIC farmer's market vouchers! They even have picnic tables set up so you can pack a lunch and make a day of it. :)
thank you for this! Although I want to pick berries every year, I never know where to go and I look at lists but don't know which ones are actually good (or cheap). Thanks for giving your recommendations!
Some varieties of raspberries are available into August. At least they were last year! :)
I picked at Bushue's this Thursday. Frankly, the berries were tiny and many were shriveled and sunburned. The owner told me that this is the first year of picking for this field, and that the price was reduced because the berries were so small. He also said that next year should be better.
We picked raspberries at Rowell Bros.(on Scholls ferry road just before hwy 219 to hillsboro) today the Willamette berries were small but yummy and were going fast, almost picked over.....they also had some raspberries that were called Coho and they were huge, yummy and just starting to turn red. I am going to go back next week and pick these to individually freeze for fruit salads etc as well as their huge marionberries, and blueberries also 99 cents a pound! We picked three buckets (they supply the picking buckets with handles and you can buy them to take your berries home for 50 cents or bring your own take home container) when full the buckets are approx. 5 lbs, mine were a little bit more than 5 lbs each. I paid $16.65, for 24 pints or 2 flats. They had the already picked raspberries for $20 a flat so I felt pretty good about getting each flat for around $8.30. I made four batches (4 cups of mashed berries each) of jam and froze them individually filling 1 1/2 gallon freezer bags full.
We picked blackcaps (.60/lb) at Sleights this morning. It looks like they still have lovely strawberries as well. The price can not be beat!
This morning we picked at West Union Gardens (www.westuniongardens.com) and their raspberries are RIPE! We also got a bucket full of marionberries. They are $1.40 a pound.
Does anyone know where to get a good deal on Pectin? I want to make some jam.
