I am kid-less for a couple of hours and have some time to really think through tomorrow’s Huggies deal at Walgreens. Here are a couple of scenarios to lower your out-of-pocket (OOP). These scenarios are good examples of buying stuff you don’t need to lower the cost of the things you do need. Donate or gift the extra stuff.
If you are new to couponing or Walgreens, stop reading at the moment it gets too confusing. I don’t want any of you to be overwhelmed or discouraged. The Huggies deal scenarios listed here are awesome even without messing with them.
Check out our Walgreen’s weekly deal post for details on these coupons.

You could also combine any of these deals with the Sambocol ($1.01 overage), Coffeemate ($.51 overage) or Colgate Advanced Toothpaste ($.51 overage).
Keys to making these types of complicated deals work:
- Be organized. Have your coupons ready. Know what the total should be before you check out.
- Check out with a coupon-friendly cashier.
- Check out during a slow time so no one feels rushed.
- Be sweet.
- Hand the cashier coupons in the correct order. If you’re doing the Glade deal, hand the Walgreen’s IVC coupons first, then all MQs.
- If it doesn’t work, politely abandon the deal and just buy the Huggies.
Anyone else come up with a fancy way to lower your OOP this week?

Laura: How overage is handled is up to each store and oftentimes up to the individual cashier, in my experience.
They do not have to accept the overage. There are alot of deals this week at Walgreens that result in overage, so I’m not surprised that the cashiers are ready to shut it down.
I went to Walgreens to do the Huggies diaper deal yesterday and found that I could use the $5 or the $3 off coupons on any Huggies diapers or wipes, it didn’t matter if it was natural fit or gentle care they didn’t have to match. See my post about this at: http://www.coupons-feed-u.com/?p=125
My question is this: Do they have to accept overage or is this up to individual stores? In Albany today they price adjusted all my overage coupons, for the Garnier, Glade, and Sambucol. I had a grumpy cashier though, so maybe it was just her?
I am guessing now that I think about it, that she rang one up, than the coupon, than the other… she had the coupon out already and used hers… and she pointed out “1 per coupon”… so I guess she just enforced it, do they usually not care? Also, anyone know if the Huggies coupons will work on any package? I read somewhere that they were working on any package/type but didn’t know if this was anyone else’s experience?
Jana: Did she manually change the $8 to $4 in the register? When I did the Glade deal, the register took off $8.
So either she enforced the limit (which is really rare) or the registers have been reprogrammed, which would be even more unlikely.
Question: I went to Walgreens today and when the cashier rang up my Glade products, she said the IVC coupon said limit one so I only got $4 off instead of $8, any thoughts on this?
Concerning how coupons are scanned: I have also read conflicting orders, which makes me think it makes no difference at all.
The only reason to give the Walgreens IVC first with the Glade deals is in case the register recognizes the BOGO coupon and rejects the second $4 IVC deduction — or a cashier who won’t let it through. I’m just guessing though.
Just wondering what your suggestion is regarding in what order you hand coupons to the cashier. Seems like various blogs have different suggestions – some say IVC first, some IVC last. Does it matter what deal you’re trying to do? What’s your take? Thanks !
You know what? I’m going to stock up on broth and that will take care of the filler items. 🙂
Bethany: You can! Just add a filler item(s) to your transaction. The RR just needs an item to attach to. I always find clearanced stuff — $.11 pencils, 75% off Valentine’s candy, pack of gum, whatever.
That’s exactly what I’m planning to do when I do my Huggies deal.
Thanks for clarifying that. I knew you could stack manufacturer and store coupons, but I thought it was the total number of coupons, not just the number of MC, that couldn’t exceed the number of items purchased.
Now I’m just wishing the stack of RR I got last Sunday could be used to pay for all the Huggies. Oh well, you can’t have everything you want in life. 🙂
Bethany: The policy concerns manufacturer’s coupons. These scenarios use store coupons (the Glade Walgreens IVCs), which do not count.
In each scenario, you’d be using 7 manufacturer’s coupons for 7 items, which works. You would, however, have to add a filler item if you used a RR to pay for transaction.
Good question.
Doesn’t WG have a policy about not having more coupons than items? If so, then these scenarios won’t work. However, I could be mistaken about that rule. It’s something I’ve heard, but never tried on my own.
