Here’s what I got at Albertsons today:
An empty bag? Nope, 8 Garden Delight boxes of pasta and 2 jars of La Victoria Salsa. All for the cost of $.98. But I didn’t bring them home with me. Why? Well, two stores I went to didn’t have the pasta in stock, so at the second store I finally did what I should have done at the first store, ASK FOR A RAINCHECK.
I’ve heard several people comment on FB about how much they love rainchecks. You always get the exact amount that you need. Unless, of course there is some delay in the warehouse. If that happens, I have another solution. Read on.
My store was out of rainchecks. Of course. So I did the next best thing, I asked if I could pre-pay for the items and pick them up later. The customer service attendant was actually more excited about that option then figuring out how to write raincheck. I paid for my salsa and pasta and they’ll call me when it comes in. SIMPLE. Why have I not been doing this all along?!?
So, here’s what you should do if your store is out of stock:
1. Ask to pre-pay. If you store will not allow you to do this, I have no idea why. They are just being punks, in my opinion. It’s money in their store now rather than later. This is the best option because you are able to get the sale price without the cashier having to adjust the price of each item and then mess with all your coupons. You can actually take your kids to the store to pick the items up because you’ll only be in there for at least 3 minutes. Obviously, this might not work with doubles, unless you have a really nice store that will allow you to do the transaction with the doubles. There is no downside to just asking.
2. Ask for a raincheck. You get a month to buy more coupons and stroll into the store when it works for you. Chances are good that there will be a doubles sale during that 30 day window. If you’re confused about rainchecks or have more questions, check out the Ultimate Guide to Couponing.
3. Ask! That is the most important step you can take to make sure you get your item. Do not walk into the store, see and empty shelf and leave. Ask questions. Do you have more stock? Can I pre-pay for my transaction? Can I get a raincheck? This not only helps to get you what you need, it helps to build relationships with the employees in your store.
I have 7 more pasta coupons. I’m going to add in a few more items from the Instant Savings sale and pre-pay for my items at the other store. This is so great! Really, why have I not been doing this the whole time?
