We received this question from our reader, Halley, a few weeks ago:
I’m wondering if there is anywhere I can find out weeks or months in advance what coupons are going to be available and/or what will be on sale in various stores. I know there are lists of what coupon inserts will come out for the next year, so I’m looking for something similar that talks about the specific coupons.
It is great to know about upcoming sales so you can prepare by collecting coupons and preparing your transactions.
If you’re looking to get the heads-up on Rite Aid and Walgreens, I suggest you check IHeartRiteAid.com and IHeartWags.com. Look on the right sidebar for upcoming weekly ads. The problem, of course, is that Portland is a test-market for the lame Walgreens Rewards Card so many of the Register Rewards deals will not work in the Portland Metro area.
As for the grocery stores, bloggers catch wind of upcoming deals by chance — someone gets a hold of an upcoming ad and posts the sweet deals. This most typically happens with Albertsons or Safeway. We very rarely get advance notice of Fred Meyer, QFC deals or Target.
The best piece of advice I have for you all is just to check Frugal Living NW on a daily or almost daily basis (subscribing by email is a great way to keep up with the deals). I realize this sounds self-serving, but we try really hard to let you all know about upcoming deals so you have plenty of time to order coupons off ebay or a coupon clipping site.
If you’re looking for what coupons to expect each week, we are really at a disadvantage in the Pacific Northwest as we get different coupons and coupon amounts than other regions. Even if you know what coupons are being released, chances are you will be disappointed each week because we either didn’t get that coupon or the value is less than another part of the country. I suggest you just be surprised each week so you aren’t disappointed.
