I have been,so when my sister-in-law mentioned that they just went to a berry picking farm down the road from them and it was only one dollar a pound, I immediately said, “Let’s go!”
The plants were so loaded with ripe berries that it only took us maybe 15 minutes to pick 12 pounds of berries. The very best part is that these are some really sweet strawberries, mmmm, mmmmm!
If the berry grows its cap up and away from the berry rather than inset into the berry than it, so I have heard, is going to be sweet.
If you are interested in picking your own berries and produce go to pickyourown.org for a very thorough list. Go here for Oregon and here to find all other states and a few other countries. If you live around Portland then check out Albeke Farms in Oregon City, they are first on the pick your own list.
Now I get to decide just what I am going to do with all these succulent berries! I’m thinking I’ll freeze a bunch for smoothies, make a strawberry tart using the Toasted Oatmeal Shortbread recipe from The Oregonian and then eat as many fresh berries in the next two days as I can!
