If you love Dave’s Killer Bread, but not the killer price, try this deal in the Portland-metro area :
Head to their Healthy Bread Store in Milwaukie.
Buy a dozen loaves of frozen bread.
Pay a fraction of the retail value.
Toss the loaves in your freezer and thaw as needed.
I had heard of this deal a few months ago, but I didn’t take advantage of it for two reasons :
- I thought the bread would be dry, only good for toast or duck food. The frozen bread are just unsold loaves 3-5 days old that have been returned from grocery stores. We bought our loaves on September 11, and they had a “best by” date of September 17. Once the bread thaws, it is soft and tastes fresh. You won’t be able to tell it was a grocery store reject.
- I didn’t want to take up so much room in my chest freezer with 12 loaves of bread. A friend and I bought 12 loaves in one transaction, then split them. Problem solved. We each paid $11 and both of us walked away with 6 loaves of Dave’s bread. Great deal. This bread normally sells in grocery stores for $3-$5+/loaf. If you don’t have an extra freezer, find 2-3 other people to split an order up even smaller!
Is it possible to make your own bread from scratch for less? Of course.
Is it possible to buy other brands of bread for less? Definitely.
Is it possible to buy Dave’s for less? Doubt it.
Head over to the Healthy Bread Store and stock your freezer with some Killer Bread!
Angela adds: If you live in the Clackamas County area, be sure to check the “Buy Local Only” magazine that arrived in your mailbox this week for a “Buy 2, Get 1 loaf FREE” coupon inside the front cover.
