If your child receives free school lunches, your family may qualify for Comcast’s new program, Internet Essentials. You get home internet service for $9.95 and the option to purchase a computer for just $149.
Go here for details and to request a Comcast Internet Essentials application packet.
Thanks, Carla!

Does anyone know of another low-cost internet option similar to this (but without the kids-in-school qualifier??) – My husband is a full time student and I’m supporting our family (1 baby) with my job and our $50/month internet is so hard to swallow each month. I called comcast and they said this is the absolute lowest speed & price they offer. We tried Clear but couldnt get reception enough to even open a webpage and Qwest isn’t availble in our area. Anyone have ideas???
I think it’s a great idea…we’d qualify except that we currently have Comcast internet. I think that stipulation stinks. Haven’t found another service yet that offers internet in my area, believe me…I’ve looked!
We are low income with 2 kids but we don’t get free lunches so this doesn’t work for us either I wish it did so we could have it for our kids to use for school.
I’m so happy Comcast is doing this! Our family does not qualify, but it makes my Comcast bill less painful knowing they are offering this for low-income families! Way to go Comcast !!! My kids are in 6th and 10th grade and have been using the internet for school for years now!
thanks for this! i really wish they would consider doing the same for low-income families with no kids as well.
