If you are able to score some extra Johnson & Johnson travel-sized first aid kits with the $3/2 tearpad and blinkie coupon at Walmart, consider donating them to Medical Teams International (formerly Northwest Medical Teams).
MTI, a non-profit Christian global health organization headquartered in the Portland area, currently has medical professionals serving as missionaries in Haiti and they are in need of first aid supplies. Dorothea, a friend from church whose daughter is a nurse in Haiti with MTI right now, has told me that MTI sends boxes filled with supplies with people going to Haiti and the J&J boxes would be perfect!
Dorothea also suggested that you add additional items to the boxes, like small tubes of antibiotic ointment or packages of antibiotic wipes, oral hygiene supplies, packaged sample soap, or perhaps stickers that can be given to children.
You can drop your donation off at the Medical Teams International office in Tigard, Oregon. While you’re there, be sure to walk through their Real Life exhibit that shows world needs and what you can do to help. The exhibit is appropriate for middle school children and older and would be a fantastic summer outing for your kids once out of school. It looks as though you need to schedule a tour in advance.
