If you have ever taken advantage of an in-store branch U.S. Bank promotion that gave you $75 for opening a FREE U.S. Bank checking account, be sure to check your mail. I just received notice that my checking account is transitioning to a U.S. Bank Easy Checking account and will incur a monthly maintenance free of up to $8.95 per month. This fee is avoidable if I make a direct deposit of $500 or more each month OR maintain an aver age balance of $1500. This transition is set to occur July 24, 2011.
I’m sure U.S. Bank has another FREE checking account option, so if you want to keep your account I suggest you talk to your local branch within the next two months to figure out your options. If you don’t want to, be sure to close your account before July 24.
I don’t have a problem with U.S. Bank changing the accounts (they are giving us two months notice). And I have had my account for about 2 years, so this may not be happening for those of you who took advantage of the promotion more recently. Regardless, do open any mail coming from U.S. Bank or, just to be safe, check in with your local branch to find out if your account will be transitioning to a pay-per-month option.
