Frugal Family Fun: Recycled Alphabet Crayons

by Angela on February 26, 2010

A few months ago I went through our house, throwing away every broken crayon I could find. Now I’m kicking myself. One Charming Party has a tutorial on how to make recycled alphabet crayons.

You could get creative on this one and use any type of mold you have in the house.

I tried this. They get stinky and smokey when they’re melting. Also, make sure you’re using an oven safe mold, otherwise that will melt too.

Over the holidays, I saw the same idea only you used a muffin tin and the paper liners. Once the were cooled, you could take them out of the paper. The were pretty with the ruffled edges. I remember they had a stack in a cello bag for a gift.

I did something similar to this, one year for Christmas. I used Christmas themed chocolate candy molds and gave them out as Christmas presents. I melted several different colored pieces together, which gave them each a unique swirrelled multicolored effect. I don’t remember what temperature I used, but I didn’t have a problem with sticking.

I’m still kicking myself for throwing away a Costco licorice tub full of broken crayons 12 years ago.
