We absolutely cannot believe the outpouring of love and support you all have given to foster children through the Welcome Box giving opportunity. Hundreds of children entering foster care in Multnomah, Clackamas, Washington and now Clark counties have been and will continue to be impacted during what may be one of the most difficult times of their young lives through the Welcome Boxes you all have donated.
The Welcome Box coordinators have expressed a need that we want all of you in the Portland Metro area to be aware of:
We have many, many incomplete boxes right now that just need a few items so they can be delivered to a local DHS office. There is a huge private “packing party” taking place this Friday (11/9) and we would love if all of these boxes could be filled on that day!
Would you consider purchasing or digging through your stockpile and gift closet for some of these items?
- coloring books
- blank journals
- markers, crayons, colored pencils
- small stamp sets
- cross word puzzles, Sudoku, word searches, Madlib activity books
- individually packaged non-perishable snacks (crackers, cookies, granola bars, fruit snacks, apple sauce)
- plastic spoons
TOILETRIES/PERSONAL CARE ITEMS:
- toothbrushes, toothpaste
- brushes, hair accessories
- lip balm
- nail clippers, polish
- travel-sized toiletries
- feminine care products
- small cosmetic cases
- small flashlights
- AA batteries (you can donate unpackaged batteries — just make sure they all work!)
- small toys (stuffed animals, Matchbox cars, dolls, yo-yos, slinky, card games, small Etch-a-Sktech)
- sippy cups
- small reusable water bottles
- small photo albums
- foldable reusable nylon bag or grocery sack
Please make sure the items you donate can easily fit into a photo box (about the size of a standard shoe box) — make sure they are small :). If you purchase a multi-pack of something, like Playdough, socks or lollipops, we will separate the items out and fill multiple boxes. Any sized donation is welcome and totally appreciated!
