Get a 1 or 2 night stay for two in a superior room at Skamania Lodge from $114 a night (up to 2 kids stay FREE). This is a pretty good deal. They used to offer a Sunday night special for this price but I’m not sure if they do it anymore. I love, love, love Skamania lodge. I’ve been there with my husband, just girlfriends and with my daughters. All occasions have been delightful. (Their change in decor in the lobby isn’t super awesome and the paintings are a little creepy. But it still holds the wonderful ambiance.)
Skamania Lodge takes its name from a Chinook word meaning “swift water.” The borrowed moniker is appropriate—the hotel overlooks the Columbia River Gorge. There’s a high concentration of waterfalls around this gorge, including the fifth-highest waterfall in the country. The lodge is situated on 175 wooded acres and surrounded by beautiful natural attractions; it serves as both a place to find solitude and a home base for snowshoeing and downhill and cross-country skiing. It’s also surrounded by history—the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail is nearby, and Mount St. Helens is about a 60-mile drive away.
