Guest Post Submission Guidelines

Thanks for your interest in providing a guest post for FrugalLivingNW.com. I am currently accepting original posts that will appeal to my readers as they strive to be content, spend wisely, give generously and leave a legacy.

FrugalLivingNW.com homemaking and frugal living posts follow a theme that changes every two months. You are welcome to submit one or more posts that have something to do with that cycle’s topics by a certain date (go here for the 2011-2012 themes). Emily, my frugal homemaking project manager, and I will review each post and decide if it is a good fit for the blog. If your post is selected, we will edit and schedule it to post sometime in the two months. We will let you know your post date so you can plan a welcome post or add complementing content on your own blog if you have one.

Before submitting a post, please read through the following guidelines. Adhering to these will increase the probability of your post being published.

  • It must be well-written. This is absolutely the most important requirement!
  • It needs no or little editing. We have limited time, so anything that requires more than light editing on our part will be sent back for you to edit or not accepted. I strongly suggest that you have someone edit your post for you before you submit it. A second or third pair of eyes often catch things that the writer misses.
  • It has something to do with homemaking or frugal living.
  • It is no more than 600 words. If you have more than this, you can make it into a series of smaller posts and we can schedule it out that way.
  • It is original content and not previously published on the web. You also agree to not publish the content somewhere else later.

Keep in mind the following as you write your post(s):

  • Paragraphs should be short — typically 2-3 sentences each. This isn’t essay writing; it’s a magazine-style.
  • Bulleted lists, bulleted lists, bulleted lists. Readers love lists. It’s easier to read and more interesting to look at.
  • Include lovely pictures. We can help with this, but if you have pictures to go with your post, it will save us a bunch of time.
  • Your writing needs to be succinct. Get to your point quickly. Use adjectives and adverbs sparingly.
  • The tone of your post should be friendly and professional. Avoid the use of slang and texting language (i.e. through, not thru).
  • Use bold and italics for emphasis, not underlining.

Submission of a guest post does not guarantee that it will be published on FrugalLivingNWcom. If your post is not accepted, we will let you know so you can use it for your own personal use (on your blog) or submit it to another blog as a guest post.

To submit a guest post for review, please email frugallivingonline@gmail.com with “Guest Post” in the subject line. This will make sure the email is put in the correct folder by my assistant and not lost in my Gmail archive :) .

Include the following in the body of the email (do not attach the post as a Google doc, Word doc or in HTML):

  1. Post title
  2. Text of the post
  3. Your name, blog/site URL (if applicable) and a 2-3 sentence biography
  4. Attach any images to the email. Make sure you note where the picture is to be inserted in the post text — for instance, write {insert picture #1 here} where you’d like a picture to go. Please re-size all pictures to be 500 pixels wide (horizontal pictures are preferred; vertical pictures take up too much space). Go to Webresizer.com to re-size your pictures quickly.

Submissions which appear to be PR or SEO-related will not be accepted. Believe me, I can tell.
