HPInkChallenge

This post is sponsored by HP. All opinions and views expressed are our own. Our contributor, Shelly is our challenge participant and will be posting on how HP printer ink stacks up against refill ink.

As you may remember from last week I was unable to get my black ink cartridge refilled at Costco so HP sent me another cartridge to be refilled. This time I went to a little shop less than a mile from my house called Ink 2 Go on Halsey in NE Portland. They had the same cartridge in stock, so I gave them mine and they handed me one that had already been refilled so I didn’t have to wait. The cost was only $8 and it worked on the first try! It was a relief to install it in my printer and have it work.

I then printed off documents from both printers for week 1 of the challenge. I have to say that the original HP cartridges did perform a little better. Both sets of documents look good, but there is a little bit of color banding visible on the documents printed with the refilled ink. I’ll be using the same cartridges throughout the challenge, so it will be interesting to see how the two types hold up over time.

I tried to go into my local Walgreens and they said that they stopped refilling ink cartridges because the manufacturers have made the cartridges so that the success rate of refilling them was so low it wasn’t worth it.

So I went and bought a generic brand (new) from a local office store. It’s working just fine, but I was sad to not be able to refill my cartridges.

It’ll be interesting to see how your challenge goes!

I’m so glad you are doing this. I’ve been struggling with buying name brand ink for years. Thank you!
