Every time Safeway or Albertsons runs a big catalina promotion, there are problems. Cats print and then they don’t. Customer service is sometimes helpful and sometimes accuses you of coupon fraud. Here’s what I’ve learned from experience:
:: There are glitches in the computer system as a promotion is introduced. If your cats didn’t print, give it a day or two and try again.
:: The total you need to shoot for is $30 before manufacturer’s and double coupons.
:: If the cat doesn’t print, your cashier, the store manager and the Catalina company will inevitably blame the problem on your coupons. Clearly this isn’t true because the cats are printing with no problem for the majority of us. They don’t know what else to blame it on. Just expect this response and don’t get fired up.
:: Make sure the catalina machine is working properly. Look for a green light on the front of the machine. If the machine has a red solid or blinking light that means your cats will not print. The paper is either out or jammed. If the color is anything but green, tell your cashier before you are cashed out and he/she will fix it.
:: More often than not, the cat didn’t print because of your error — you miscalculated and are under the $30 or one or more of your items do not qualify for the promotion. Be sure to triple check the variety and size of the product to make sure it’s a participating product.
:: If know for certain that your cats should have printed, go to customer service and simply say, “My coupons did not print.” Don’t offer more information than that. Answer their questions but oftentimes we talk so much that we end up giving them the excuse, “It’s because of your coupons.”
:: If customer service doesn’t work, either return the items and get your coupons back or contact the Catalina company to get your money by mail. Try your deal at another store or with a different combination of products.
:: And please don’t give up on this coupon thing. There will be times that a deal blows up in your face and you feel like a fool. Just remember the other ten times you walked out of the store with free food.
I’d love to hear any other catalina promotion wisdom out there. Leave a comment & bolster our confidence!
