Raspberry picking season is in full swing and has been for a couple weeks now with only a week or so left. How did I let that slip by me?
Check out pickyourown.org for the nearest U-Pick place around your area.
In the Portland area I called a few places and found the prices to vary quite a bit. One reason is that some fields are newer so it takes longer to pick, also some places are organic.
Here are a few of the places I called:
Albeke : Oregon City, $1.50/lb.
Bushue’s: Boring, $.75/lb.
Hartnell’s Farms: Clackamas, $1.50/lb. for 10 lb. or more.
Sleights Berry Farms: Mulino, $.80/lb.
Thompson Farms: Boring, $2/lb. (I think, it might have been $1.50) this farm is organic, I do know that.
It is usually best to call the farm the day before you want to pick to make sure they are open.
Also, don’t forget to take your own containers.
I am looking forward to fresh raspberries, making freezer jam, freezing some for smoothies and making some baked goods out of these delicious berries.
