Sharing Spree, a Portland local daily deal site, is having a fantastic deal for those of you with kids or grandkids in the Portland are: Get a one year family membership to Art ala Carte in NE Portland for just $39. Art ala Carte PDX is an open studio for art and creation for the whole family. They have tons of recycled materials that kids get to use to make art (plus, there’s a glue gun available for kids to use — score!).
We tried Art ala Carte out a few months ago and my kids really liked it. It’s a bit confusing at first because they get to do whatever they want (not a lot of direction given), but once they got over that initial anxiety, it was really fun. Best part for me? I didn’t have to clean up after them. Okay, I think it’s just plain irresponsible to allow children to make whatever mess and not require them to put effort into cleaning it up, so I did have them put their supplies away, but I do love that the owners expect that kids will make a mess and won’t fuss at you about it.
- Unlimited open studio time for up to three named children
- One free guest pass per visit
- 50% off additional guest passes (up to three guests per visit)
- 15% off parent’s night out
- 15% off special events and day camps
- Invitation to member’s only appreciation events
The studio is open Wednesdays-Fridays (can something for kids in Portland be open on Mondays?) and some weekends.
If you live within a reasonable drive of the location, I think $39 is a bargain for this membership even if you go just a handful of times over the year. Sometimes my kids, especially my boys who are home all day, just need to get out and do something, but I don’t want to shell out a bunch of money to make that happen. This seems like a great option!
