It’s been hard to think of anything but Albertsons this week (honestly, I’ve had deal scenario dreams for the past four nights, not joking), but my husband & I went to Safeway late last night to take advantage of the $10/$50 store coupon and some other deals.
Here’s a picture of what $52 cash (of course), coupons and some planning can get you (stool not included).
I did two Buy 10, Save $5 promotions — the best was 10 Hefty One-Zips for $.50 each. There were also a bunch of dough markdowns that I combined with coupons. The toilet paper wasn’t the best deal ($9/24 double roll pack) but coupled with the $10/$50, it turned out okay.
The highlight of the evening, at least for my husband, was finding the clearanced ribs, which were only marked down 30%. It is all he could talk about as he walked through the store. He even called our friend Ben to make plans to cook them (at 10:30 pm — sorry, Melinda). It’s as if he’d never seen a piece of beef in his life.
I live about 20 minutes and six car seat buckles from the closest WinCo so I do almost all my shopping at Safeway & Albertsons and try to stock up when the $10/$50 coupons are released. Since I only buy things that are on a great deal anyway (we do without instead of paying full price or falling for their fake sales), I always assume the coupons are after all coupons and discounts. It’s not worth my time to try and fight the cashiers.
You can read this week’s Safeway deals here.
Here’s the question for seasoned WinCo shoppers: Did I do better than buying the generic equivalent at WinCo? Give me your honest opinion. I have really high self-esteem.
