Safeway: Mastercard Promo Overlap!

Shared on December 3, 2012
This post may contain affiliate links which means I make a small commission if you make a purchase at no additional cost to you. See the disclosure policy for more information.

UPDATE: Please read the comments before trying this deal. The cat may not be printing because your total goes below $100. I’m wondering if the Catalina would print if you purchased a $115 MasterCard gift card.

There are some overlapping MasterCard Gift Card Promos for the next couple of days! You’ll need to log into your Just4U account and load a coupon in order to make this one work. I haven’t tried this yet but this is how I’m assuming they would stack up. Keep in mind that you’ll also get 4x Gas Rewards!

Buy 1 MasterCard ($100) on sale $105.99 ($5.99 activation fee)
Spend $100 on MasterCard, Get $10 Catalina (ends 12/4)
Use $15/$100 Mastercard Just4U coupon (in coupon center)
Pay $90.99, Get $10 Catalina
$80.99 after coupon & Catalina, plus $.40 gas rewards!

Safeway doubles most manufacturer’s coupons to to $.50 each in Oregon and SW Washington. Find more Safeway deals here.

This was my second-favorite score this holiday season. (The first was the Dyson Animal vacuum for under $100!) Used the first Mastercard to pay for the second transaction, so I wound up paying $105.95 out-of-pocket for two Mastercards ($115.00 on second card; $9.05 balance left on the first card) plus two $10-off-of-$10 catalinas (just shy of a $40 MM!). Next, I plan to roll this deal with the Albertsons gift card promotion currently going on ($10 when you buy $100 in gift cards…Amazon is included!) Thank you SO much, FLNW!

I did this deal today and was told (by customer service) that the reason I did not receive my $10 cat was because I *only* paid $85 for the MasterCard gift card, even though I purchased groceries to make my total go over the $100. If you want the cat, I guess you need to purchase at least $115 in MasterCard gift cards in the same transaction. That’s not what the YourBucks states, but that’s what the woman in customer service at Safeway told me 🙁 The YourBuck states: “Save $10 in future savings when you buy $100 in MasterCard gift cards.” I “bought” $100 gift card.

Do you have to buy the Mastercard gift cards with cash? I thought I remembered you couldn’t use credit or debit.

It’s better to purchase cards for the specific store rather than these visa, mastercard, etc cards. The activation fee, the fee if it is not used within a certain time frame is not worth the time or money that was hard earned to begin with. Why pay an activation fee just to use a gift card? Seems silly IMHO.

I understand what you’re saying, but the point of these overlapping promos is that even with the activation, it’s a $19 money-maker.

I just went and bought 2 $100 cards and a $50 card. The $15 came off twice and then I got 2 $10 cats – one is $10 off any order and the other one is $10 off a $50 order ( annoying, but it’s still $10 free!!) What a great deal – I’m simply using the cards for my general purchases!! Thank you!!

      JM,
Did you buy your multiply giftcards in one transaction?

All you need to do is call Safeway customer service and they can add it onto your Just4U account. It then takes about 30 mins to load and you have to go in and click the ADD button. (I’m waiting right now for mine). 🙂

The $15 off j4u is in the coupon center, under special offers. I did this deal tonight, and it worked great! I bought a variable load card and loaded it for $115. My total was $120.95 (with the activation fee) and then my j4u coupon came off, making the total $105.95. A $10 off catalina also printed, making this a $19.05 mm. I did not receive any gas rewards, which is to be expected, because pre-paid cards are excluded in the gas rewards program.

Log into your j4u account, and click on coupon center. On the left side of the screen, it says “view by category.” Directly under that there it says “show all” and lists the categories. Directly under the “show all” line is special offers. HTH!

Just got back. I purchased a variable card for $115. Paid $105.99, got $10CAT. $19.01mm! While I was there, another lady bought 2 $100 master cards. Only one $15coupon came off, but cashier manually took off the other $15, as per the details on jfu. She paid $181.98, got back $10CAT and $10off50 safeway coupon. I suggest doing this at self check and having the assistant help you, that way you can see what’s happening as you go.

I don’t think you can buy GCs at SCO. They have to be activated (else you can just walk out with them), and the SCO doesn’t have that….and I don’t think the attendant booth does either.

Our Safeway self check out is able to activate gift certificates. I just bought one there over the weekend. It said wait for assistance, I looked at the attendant then he looked at me and said it was activated. Voila…that easy!

if you go to couponnetwork.com and search your zip code for the $10/$10 deal. it will tell you if its available in your region. it is in some, isnt in others. thats the reason.

Beware! I hear the $15off coupon brings your total below 100, therefore no $10CAT….

This isn’t a partner gift card, so no gas points.
