I just received this email from Lori in Hillsboro:
Would you please let your readers know that expired coupons can be sent to our American Military families overseas. They can use the coupons for up to 6 months past expiration date in the commissary on base!
I know that the Aloha American Legion (Aloha, Oregon) hall accepts them (some friends of ours take them there), but there is also a website, Military Family Coupon Project that updates the bases in need on a monthly basis. People could probably call around to some local legion halls and find out if they are doing this as well. You don’t have to be a member to get coupons to them.
Generally, they appreciate if coupons are separated into food and non-food categories and placed in baggies accordingly. You don’t even have to break them down into sub-categories. Should be great (and easy) for weeding expired coupons out of our envelopes or folders.
I would love to spearhead some organized effort to collect and send out expired coupons so military personnel can use them, but I just don’t have the time. This would be a fantastic project for a couple of friends to facilitate. I would definitely help with promotion if anyone wants to take on a noble project!
