by Krista from Frugal Living NW on March 22, 2013

Doubles coupons are here! Here are the details on Albertsons double coupons:

  • Each double coupon will double the value of a manufacturer’s coupon up to $1 each, as long as you do not profit from using the coupon.
  • You can use up to 3 double coupons per transaction, up to 3 doubles transactions per shopping trip.
  • The double coupons are only available in the Sunday newspaper, not at the customer service desk.
  • Albertsons double coupons are technically “Twice the Value” coupons, which means they will double the value of coupons labeled “Do Not Double.”
  • Double coupons are not valid on coupons valued at $1.01+.
  • Albertsons will double an internet printable coupon.
  • These double coupons are valid Sunday-Tuesday (March 24-26).

I was truly fortunate also as I didn’t go until tonight (Tues) and they still had lots of planters peanut butter (thanks to readers who reported the coupon worked great-which it did for me also & also alerted me to look around on different shelves & sure enough the types weren’t all together) and the celestial tea was even better as some were on clearance for $2.26 (including the one I wanted!)-so .26 with coupons!! Also, unlike Howard’s experience I was able to use the $1 cat from the planters on my next purchase right away (always safer for me-no chance of losing it!).

The last few times I’ve shopped at my local Albertsons (Albany,OR) they told me I couldn’t use more than one manufacturer’s coupon per transaction. They’re interpreting the “one per purchase” wording as “one per transaction”. Has anyone else had this problem at other locations?

Janene March 26, 2013 at 6:58 pm

I ran into a cashier like that at a Target store last year but I’ve never experienced an Albertson’s cashier telling me that.

Reply

Howard March 27, 2013 at 1:26 pm

That’s ridiculous. I don’t think that’s happened to me in about 35 years. You can argue the point with the cashier or manager, but ultimately the decision is theirs. Albertson’s also has a toll-free customer service number usually printed on the receipt; I would call them and report this incident.

A special shout-out to reader Janene, who gave me 3 sheets of TTVs. I got all of the following: 3 Hormel Always Tender pork roasts; 2 Hormel Sandwich Makers; 3 Tillamook Light yogurts; 2 Bertolli pasta sauces; 1 Bailey’s creamer; and a free bag of store brand frozen hash browns by using store cat from Sunday ($10 min purchase). Also saw a display of Powerade/Vitamin Water/Smart Water with a sign reading buy 10 for $10, use two $2 cpns (from cashier), get 10 free Fuzes. (I think that deal expires today.) All this came to $16.39 after cpns/9 TTVs (3 transactions), less another $2 from OYNO cats from Sun. Thanks again, JJ, and it was great to meet you!

Janene March 26, 2013 at 6:55 pm

It was great to finally meet you too Howard! I’m also glad that the TTV’s helped you find some good deals :-)

Not sure if it was posted but the Maxwell house international coffee like the french vanilla, mocha flavored coffee is 2/$5… with $1 coupon and double= .50 cents!

Reply

Emily March 25, 2013 at 4:34 pm

Did anyone try to do the McCormick vanilla extract deal? It was $3.49 at my store, not $1.99…

Reply

Charity March 25, 2013 at 8:06 am

Peanut Butter deal did great! I have several Planters coupons willing to share if anybody wants to or if you have extra TTV willing to part with.

Reply

Jaime March 25, 2013 at 3:28 pm

I have extra TTV. Where are you located?

Reply

charity March 25, 2013 at 6:05 pm

Woodburn,OR do you need any planters pb coupons.

Reply

Suzy March 25, 2013 at 12:25 am

Did everyone get Doubles in their Sunday paper this week? I got 12 papers and none of them have the Double. Weird……wondering if you could tell me what part of the paper you found them. Thanks

Reply

Megan K March 25, 2013 at 12:35 am

They are on a larger, full-sheet sized, newsprint material Albertsons Ad. (Not the usual small glossy ad.) It’s in the main coupons section, but tends to stick to the adjoining ad…(can’t remember what it was…a sporting goods store?)

Reply

Charity March 25, 2013 at 8:07 am

Dicks Sporting Goods

Reply

Howard March 25, 2013 at 5:43 pm

Mine was buried inside the Big 5 ad, as usual, on top of the Best Buy ad (Oregonian). Some cities don’t get these at all, but if you’re in the Portland area, then you should have.

I went to do the Suave deodorant deal and it worked better than expected…3 FREE deodorants. On sale 3/$5, but than rang up B2G1 free also, used 3 $.75/1 coupons and 2 ttv coupons. Only one of my four papers showed up this morning, so I could only do one sheet :(

Has anyone tried the peanut butter deal?

Reply

Megan K March 25, 2013 at 12:32 am

Yep. Worked for me! But there wasn’t much left on the shelf…
Look around carefully as the creamy, crunchy, etc are not located next to each other. One king was near the floor, one waist height, and one on the top shelf. I almost missed it!

Tammy March 25, 2013 at 10:40 am

Howard March 24, 2013 at 8:28 pm

This may not be universal, but 2-3 weeks ago, the Albertson’s King City/Tigard cashier would not let me roll the $$$ OYNO cat onto my next transaction. I tried it again today (different cashier)–it didn’t scan, so he said I have to wait for another day. Not a big deal, but it seems similar to RA’s +UP policy. One day Walgreens will go that route too.

Reply

Jodi n March 24, 2013 at 9:53 pm

Mine worked in the next transaction today. Weird yours didn’t.

Reply

Howard March 24, 2013 at 5:00 pm

If you run out of TTVs, as I did, and still want the Trident gum, it’s $.69 at Walgreens for a single pack, or $.38 for two after $1/2 cpn.

Reply

Howard March 24, 2013 at 4:58 pm

Awesome trip this morning (4 total transactions):
4 Hormel Compleats; 2 Hormel Sandwich Makers; 6 bottles Turning Leaf wine; 3 Tillamook Light yogurts; 2 Success Rice; 1 Tillamook sour cream; 1 Hormel pork roast; 1 Bailey’s creamer. After cpns, 12 TTVs, 20% wine discount, $18 rebate on the wine, my total is $8.50 ($6.84 for the wine alone) + a postage stamp. Now if I could just come up with another 3 TTV sheets……..

Reply

Colleen March 24, 2013 at 6:06 pm

where did you get the rebate for the wine? Thanks!

Reply

Howard March 24, 2013 at 8:02 pm

There was a tearpad on one of the endcap shelves. But my best success at getting these is to ask at Customer Service. If they don’t have it there, then sometimes they find one in the back of the store, or on the wine display, or sometimes hanging from the bottle neck. This wine must be purchased by 3-31. $3 per bottle up to 6. 20% discount if you buy any 6 wines, rebate or not.

Reply

Stephanie March 24, 2013 at 10:07 pm

How did you do 4 transactions? I thought we were limited to 3 total? Just depends on your store if they’ll let you do more?

Reply

Howard March 25, 2013 at 5:40 pm

Two visits (in the same trip). They don’t care. You can do 3 transactions per visit. I did 3, went next door to RiteAid, then went back for the 4th.

At my Albertsons I couldn’t find the Nestle Carnation on sale (.69 listed above).
The smaller cans were regular price at $1.29 and the larger ones were on sale for $1.69. Any thoughts?

My Albertson’s has only one size for $1.99.

Reply

Jacqueline March 24, 2013 at 9:29 am

I don’t know if this has been posted or not, but I just got back from my shopping trip and purchased the general mills cereal that’s on sale and I got a total of 2 catalinas for free milk up to $4.99!. I think you have to buy 4 or more in one transaction for the catalina to print, but I’m not too sure as I had more than 4 boxes in a transaction. I was surprised to receive the catalinas, but the cashier said it was stated in the ad, but I didn’t see it.

Reply

charolyn March 24, 2013 at 8:38 pm

They had this in the past & it was with the purchase of 4 boxes-don’t know about this one specifically though.

RE Duncan Hines frosting creations: last Sunday’s Oregonian had cpns for these, free up to $1, so no need to waste any TTVs or print out the $.50 cpn if you have the free cpns.

3-17 SS, I believe. I used mine last week at Safeway, where they were 99 cts.

Tillamook yogurts are $.39 with in-ad cpn this week. Limit 10. There are BOGO and $.50/3 cpns at coupons.com on Tillamook Light. (Tastes great…less filling?) Can print 2 of each per computer. I think I’ll need about 3-4 extra TTV sheets in addition to the 3 I get already.

Reply

Howard March 24, 2013 at 4:52 pm

Reply

Amanda March 23, 2013 at 10:46 am

printed out some Q’s and my black ink showed up really faint but you can still read it. Will Albertsons accept those?

Reply

Howard March 23, 2013 at 1:41 pm

Probably depends on whether they scan. I had one rejected there a few weeks ago because some security code (not the bar code) didn’t print.

jodi March 22, 2013 at 10:21 pm

The Baileys creamer coupon says “Do Not Double.” Is there a chance Albertson’s will double anyway?

Reply

lai March 23, 2013 at 12:12 am

Jodi,

Yes, Albertson’s will still double coupons that say “Do Not Double”. So you can use it :)

Reply

Heather March 24, 2013 at 8:57 am

Does Albertsons always do this? Double a coupon that says “do not double”?

Reply

jessica March 24, 2013 at 2:09 pm

My understanding is that Albertsons never “doubles” coupons. What they do is issue a store coupon which can be redeemed for the same value as any manufacturers coupon up to a value of $1. Because it is a store coupon they can choose in what situations to honor it. The “do not double” is intended for those stores (like Kroger) who are actually doubling the coupon itself with no store coupon involved.

Reply

charolyn March 24, 2013 at 8:36 pm

To answer Heather-yes they always do this no problems. Like Jessica says-this is a store amount they give-so up to them to do what they want.

Heather March 25, 2013 at 7:08 am

Thank you for this info.. I always just never even tried to use them with my double because I though it would not work anyway, and I want to follow all the rules.
This is great news!
Thank you

charolyn March 26, 2013 at 11:28 am

I am like you too Heather-want to follow the rules. For some time I missed out at Rite Aid-using their in ad coupons-with a manufacturers coupons because they are labeled manu also (although to be really confusing-they really are store coupons-you can tell because manu starts with a 5 on the UPC # & Rite Aid’s store coupons start with a RC49).

Howard March 22, 2013 at 9:52 pm

Hormel Always Tender 24-oz pork roasts are on sale for $4.99. There are $1 cpns in 2-10 SS and at coupons.com. (These are shoulder roasts, not tenderloins.)

Reply

Howard March 22, 2013 at 9:43 pm

In addition to the Hormel Compleats, the Sandwich Makers are also part of the 3 for $6 deal. There are $1/1 cpns at hormel.com. Limit 2, and must register or sign in if already registered.

Sorry if this has been mentioned and I missed it (I did have a look through the Albertsons policy page) but how many TTV coupons do you get in the Sunday insert? Three?

Whenever Albertsons distributes the Twice The Value coupons you will receive 3 in each Sunday newspaper that you purchase/have delivered. The more papers you receive the more doublers :-) Cashiers will let you do 3 seperate transactions
