This deal will work at Albertsons this Wednesday – Saturday (3/17 – 3/20):

Post Cereal Catalina:

{Buy 4, Get $3 Catalina}
{Buy 5+, Get $4 Catalina}

Select Post Cereal on sale $1.59:  Honey Bunches of Oats, Fruity Pebbles, Honeycomb, Golden Crisp, Raisin Bran

    Transaction #1:

    Buy any 5 cereal = $7.95
    Use (2) $1/2 coupons (-$2)
    Use 2 Albertsons doubles (-$2)
    Pay 3.95, Get $4 Catalina

    Transaction #2:

    Buy any 5 cereal = $7.95
Buy $.05+ worth of additional items = $.05
    Use (2) $1/2 coupons (-$2)
    Use 2 Albertsons doubles (-$2)
Use cat from transaction #1 (-$4)

    Transaction #2:

    Buy 5 = $7.95

    Pay $3.95, Get $4 Catalina

Now you can roll this catalina and get free cereal with each transaction.

SO UNFAIR. I bought my 20 coupons two weeks ago on eBay and after 11 days of no coupons in the mail, I realized it wasn’t going to happen. The seller claimed no responsibility and offered only to send me a new set if I paid half of expedited shipping (yeah, right). Either way, I wouldn’t have gotten them by tomorrow anyway! I am SO mad and disappointed :(

    Sorry–just venting! :)

Ok, I got my coupons from ebay in time, but now I’m wondering what to use as a filler for so many transactions. If I buy 6 boxes and use three doublers, I end up with .46 overage the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. transaction. I’ve figured out a couple other things that are on sale, but not that many. Anyone have advice that’s done this before? Thanks!

Produce. You have control over how much you spend and are getting “real” food for free.

Alright, it just hit my brain cell that you can buy one banana, etc. instead of a bunch. I’m slow! Thanks for your patience!

BTW – I saw on another blog that Jose Ole Chimichanga’s are on sale for $1 at Albies and they are triggering the $10 chill cat. I tried it up here in Vancouver and it worked! My daughter and I made up a “free chimichanga’s” song to celebrate because I was so pumped! I used a previous chill cat and paid $0 oop.

Question… I bought both kids post cereal and the “normal” post cereal coupons on ebay and I was wondering if it matters which coupons I use for the deal…..

    Reply

    Angela March 17, 2010 at 9:59 am

I don’t think it matters. I’d use up your kid’s coupons first (if you’re buying the kids variety, of course). That way you’ll have the “any” coupons for future use.

Are all the post cereals that are on sale triggering the catalina? A while back with the kelloggs catalina it was only a few different cereals… Thanks! And Emily, I bought both sets too, i think one of them was just for any of them, and the kids are JUST for fruity pebbles, golden crisps, honeycomb, and cocoa pebbles. Which brings up another question i guess… are cocoa pebbles not on sale?

One more question, sorry! you showed buying .05+ extra… you don’t have to buy something else right? Won’t when you use the doublers, you’d save up to 1.00, not exactly 1.00? Or do I have it wrong?

    Bethany March 16, 2010 at 11:33 pm

I think it depends on the cashier, but they are not supposed to give you an overage, even if you are buying produce or whatever to absorb it.

You do. Your total before the catalina but after the coupons & doubles must be at least $4 in order to use the catalina from transaction #1. The cat won’t scan if your total is $3.95.

    Sarah March 17, 2010 at 12:11 pm

I went and got some cereal today and tried it. She just scanned the catalina first, then the coupons. and took .05 off one of the double coupons to make my transaction free! :)

Oh and I asked this question earlier, but I’ll answer it just in case other people are wondering. most of the post cereal is on sale (at least all the ones on the kids favorites coupons, which is what i had with me today). I’m going back later once I get my other coupons. I also asked about which cereals were triggering the catalina and the manager said just Honey bunches of oats, but I got a catalina for all the cereal i bought and I didn’t buy any of the honey bunches of oats!

And I have another question about overage. I have some $2/1 coupons for 1 box of cereal…will Albies allow me to use it when it is over the value of the cereal…and then, will they allow me to use the double as well (and just buy more produce to soak up the overage)?

I have had different experiences each time. Sometimes it will go through just fine and others it says Coupon Exceeds. So you can try it and if it works SUPER :) And if it doesn’t work say Okay can I take this off please :)

I would like to know where you find what Catalina’s are printing for what? I have a 3.00 one from the last cereal I bought and would like to roll it to another transactio where a Catalina will print. Thanks

    Angela March 17, 2010 at 10:01 am

They are advertised on catalinas that print randomly. Someone emails it to a blogger or coupon discussion board and the information “goes viral” from there.

You can use the $3 cat on this post deal and another cat will print.

I think they came out in Everett, WA but not in the Portland or Boise area. That’s why I suggested you buy them off ebay.

It’s nice when things go as planned. Thank you, thank you, for the suggestions to get the Post Cereal Coupons from e-bay. I did that on faith since it was my first time ordering coupons. I ordered them Weds late eve and they arrived Monday morning.

Got to Albertsons early and did 6 post cereal transactions. The total each time came to $3.54. Got back my $4.00 catalina…My filler item each time was a fuji apple. I did have an out of pocket cost of .14/ .15 cents for each transaction.

UGH! My closest Albertsons keeps all the ads behind the customer service desk and would only give me one. And for some reason the “This Week” paper that I’m supposed to get on Tuesdays hasn’t been coming until Thursday :( I’ve only been able to get 5 boxes so far w/ doublers.

    Angela March 17, 2010 at 10:03 am

I’ve heard it suggested that you call your Oregonian distributor (especially since you’re not receiving your Food Day until Thursday) and ask for extra Food Days delivered. He/she surely has extras and is usually fine with getting rid of extras.

You will need to call The Oregonian and ask for your distributor’s number. The central customer service can’t help you on this one.

    Jennifer March 17, 2010 at 10:21 am

Thx for the suggestion. I called the Columbian and I guess they handle the free weekly paper differently. They mail it on Tuesday’s to the Post Office, then each Post Office gets to decide what day they feel like delivering them.

I think it might be an evil plan to sell more Tuesday papers. :p

If you buy 6 boxes you will pay $3.54 for your first transaction. Then buy another 6 and will have $.46 overage. I bought a can of the veggies that are on sale for $.59 cents and only paid .13 cents for it :) But you can use it for anything :)

    Bethany March 17, 2010 at 9:59 pm

IMO the best deal is to buy 4 per transaction. This results in 64 cents overage:
4 boxes at $1.59 minus $2 for coupons, minus $2 for doubles equals OOP $2.36, $3 cat. Future transactions $2.36 for 4 boxes of cereal, plus 64 cents worth of whatever else you want- oranges are a good price at Albertson’s this week, so you should be able to get 2 or 3 of them free for each transaction.

I did 2 transactions this morning and got 10 boxes, and an orange for 4.20 but still have a $4 off for my next transaction. (I bought 20 coupons on ebay last week, so in 10 transactions I will get 50 boxes for the costof the coupons $2)!!!

In the weekly ads you receive in the “food mailers” on Tuesdays. The double coupons are only good from 3/17-3/20.

I bought 18 boxes of post cereal (3 transactions of 6 each all varieties of honey bunches of oats, and pebbles worked for me), i got 4 boxes of triscuits and 3 boxes of drumstick ice creams (umm impulse buy) and my total OOP was 11.49 plus I still have a 4 dollar catalina. I’m so stoked. We currently have 61 boxes of cereal (there are 6 of us, but still, that is a lot)…if I had more storage space, I would get more…I still just might, who needs an empty bathtub anyway?!?!

I would love to go to customer service to get this fixed, but how am I to do that when my reason would be “because I saw it on a blog”…something tells me that wouldn’t work.

if you didn’t get a cat your best bet is to call or email the catalina company directly. 1-888-826-8766- make sure to keep your receipt for your records.

So with the Post Deal, I found this to be the best scenario:

    4 box scenario:
    $1.59 per box X 4 = $6.39
    Minus $7 (2 $1/2 boxes Coupons, 2 $1 Doublers, $3 Catalina)
    Total of -$.61 money maker
(will need to purchase something for $.61 or more to use the rolling catalina)

However most coupon sites are showing the 6 box scenario which only nets you -$.46:
    $1.59 per box X 6 = $9.54
    Minus $10 (3 $1/2 boxes Coupons, 3 $1 Doublers, $4 Catalina)
    Total of -$.46 money maker
(will need to purchase something for $.46 or more to use the rolling catalina)

Clear as mud? It might be just a few cents difference, but every penny counts!

    rachael March 18, 2010 at 12:18 pm

If you have 20 coupons like I do it works out like this:
    Boy 4 boxes each transaction
1.59 x4 =6.36-2 (1 off2)-2(doubles)=2.36 .67 overage each transaction with total of 10 transactions. You end up with 40 boxes of cereal $6.03 in overage and a $3 cat to use.
    Buy 5 boxes each transaction
1.59 x5 =7.95-2 (1 off 2) -2 (doubles)= 3.95 .05 overage each transaction with total of 10 transactions. You end up with a total of 50 boxes of cereal $0.45 in overage and a $4 cat to use.
    Buy 6 boxes each transaction
1.59 x6 =9.54 -3 (1 off 2)-3 (doubles)=3.54 .46 overage each transaction but only a total of 9 transactions one of them being with 2 coupons. So a total of 41 boxes of cereal and $4.14 in overage with a $4 cat still to use.

I decided to do the 10 transactions with 5 boxes each to get the most cereal for the coupons that I have. Yes, I had less in overage but I was okay with that.
