Vanity fair napkins are BOGO at 3.59 and buy $15 get $5 up, limit 2. Buy 8, use 4 $1/2 coupons, buy another item over $.70 from superbowl promo to get you to $15 and get $5 up. Roughly $.67 each, plus cost of other item, like $1 Hormel chili. But it ends today….

I found some monthly +ups in the pencil/marker aisle again. Some products are BOGO 50% off, then $2 and $3 +ups. Not as good of a deal as when they are BOGO and then +ups, but not bad. I got two 2-packs of black Sharpies for $0.70 after rewards.

I wanna play the Rite Aid game!!! In January I bought $357.79 worth of stuff and I paid $61.23. $216 worth of that was eligible for the 50th Anniversary deal. I ended up with only $34+UP saved. Then to end the month I bought:
4 pkg of Maybelline brow & liner pencils (2 in each pack) $2.87 ea.
2 34 oz of Folgers coffee $7 ea.
1 Milky Way $1
Used 4 $1/1 Maybelline mq
Used $8+UP
Used a Olay gc from last year (expires 1/31)=$14.48
Got $8+UP
I still have $34+UP and ready to start on the next Anniversary deal

I was going to do the Skin care promo, but my deoderant coupons didn’t match up with the deoderants on sale. The Dove and Degree coupons both were for varieties not included in the sale price. Anyone see something I missed? I didn’t try it at the register, but stood there reading my coupon for 5 minutes. Instead I did the P&G promo (Tide + 1 paper towel-gotta sweet talk my husband into picking up my 5th Tide tomorrow so I can reach the $30) and the snack food once. For snack food I did:
2 Jacks jerkey $6 (used $3/2 RA flu coupon)
4 Chips Ahoy $10 (used 2 $0.75/2 coupons)
$11.50, earned $5 +up!
I was pretty pleased with those items at around $1/ea after +up

Here’s a slight variation to the Dove promo that I did since I didn’t have enough coupons to do Melody’s deal.
Buy 2 Dove for Men Bodywash 13.5 oz. 2/$7
Buy 1 Dove Body wash (18-24oz) $6
= $13
use 2 $2 Dove Men (1/27 RP), $1 Dove Bodywash (1/27RP) and $3 VV Dove Bodywash (Feb)
Pay $5, get back $4 UPR

Thanks too-it will also be easier for me to get enough coupons with this deal & it is great also!

Realized when I was at the store today-on the Food and Snack promo: Spend $15, Get $5 +UP Reward -there is also Hormel chili for $1 (with and without beans-a great price even without the deal!). Also for $1 sparking ice water.
And there are printable coupons for the chili-so will go back with those tomorrow. So far I got 2 -jack links jerkey (thanks Brenda for the reminder that the flu book had coupons for that) & a M&M snack mix (love those!).
Like this +up deal with even amount prices-so you can actually hit $15 exactly :-) Doesn’t always work that way (take the 5.94 tide for example :-) -still I persevered & got very close to the $30 on that (see details above)-but did use a lot of brain cells.

Be careful with the snack deal. I had issues with the Smartfood. It didn’t ring up on sale or track correctly. Of course I didn’t notice it until after the transaction was complete, so they had to return it and ring up something else to force my $5 UpR to print. Also, even though the Smartfood is on sale for $2.50 if you have the 20% discount it will ring up at $2.39 putting you just below the $15.
I was annoyed by the prices for the P&G deal also. Finally decided that it was still a good deal even if I went a few bucks over the $30.

charolyn January 27, 2013 at 9:04 pm

Yes the trick is getting very close to the required amount-just didn’t make it very easy!
Thanks too for the heads up-I have been short on +ups before because of the 20% & then you do end up going way over!

charolyn January 27, 2013 at 5:47 pm

Here is what I did on the P&G deal-worked out well to get just over $30 (double check your stores-as this one’s prices run a little higher):
-4 tide
-2 bounty single towels
-1 Dawn hand renewal
-2 Ivory 3 bar soap packs
=$11.46 after coupons & +up
(I did have a better bounty coupon $1/2-from a battery package-there are .25 in P&G, and I had one $2 Tide catalina coupon-so without these & the coupons listed abov=$12.46!!-Great deal either way).

Man, it was easy using up that $20 UP I earned just last night. 3 pizzas, 2 Scrub Bubbs, 1 Tidy Cat litter, 2 Viactiv calciums and a bunch of cpns later my total was $23.72, less $22 in UPs from Sat night. Paid $1.72, rec’d another $10 in UPs. For those new to RA or unsure of how to play the game, this is how you do it. Would have bought 3 more pizzas if I had freezer space.

Glad to hear you made it to $100 (saw your post on last week’s ad also)-you did keep us waiting until today though for the final report. but I did manage to sleep well last night anyway :-)
I told you that you wouldn’t have any trouble using the $20 +up! I myself am up to 43 +ups-more than usual for me-but I got up to $250 (I do buy for several other households)-through the month & just kept getting more-even though I was using some to pay OOP also.
Yes I agree-this is the way to play RA!

Congratulations on hitting $100! I wasn’t even close…didn’t have my post-holiday Rite Aid mojo up and running ’til last week. Only hit $20 for the month. :( Of course, as luck would have it, my biggest shopping trip of the month was yesterday, when we are between promos. I’m hoping to be in top form when February’s starts next week.

OK, y’all were right about the Scrub Bubb cpns. There were none on the shelf at King City, but I mentioned it to my contact there and she found me the last two on a separate display. $3.75 each with Gold discount, otherwise on sale for $3.99. The BOGO scanned for $3.75 and the $2/2 beeped. I said nothing; the cashier entered the $2/2 cpn. I don’t make a practice of doing this, but I could argue that I did buy two. Hope all of my servants appreciate how easy it will be to clean my toilets now, LOL.

Here’s my scenario for the Gillette promo:
Buy 1 Gillette pro glide 4 pack cartridges $15.03 w/ gold
Buy 1 Gillette profiled razor $8.79 w/ gold
Buy 2 Gillette fusion shave gels. (The 3.49 ones wont get you to $30 if you have the discount and they were out at my store, so I had to opt for the $5.49 variety.
Use $10 off razor wyb cartridge from pg 12/28 (?)
Use Bogo shave gels coupon and one $1 off Gillette shave gels.
I paid $17.61, received $10 up.
The scrubbing bubbles and the glade expressions were less than 3.99 with gold discount, so I was pleasantly surprised, but I still just used bogo coupon without $2/2 because I only bought two.

Howard, you crack me up! I wouldn’t consider myself a coupon saint, but the lady in front of me who argued with the cashier wanting to use a “physicians formula” coupon on a “maybeline” product did make me look rather “saintish”…. I just felt bad for the cashier and wanted my over $100 transaction to go as smooth as possible for her! And I love rite aids policy on using a cents off with a BOGO and I don’t want them to change it! :)

Brenda January 27, 2013 at 7:34 pm

Jen,
I only found 2 Scrubbing Bubbles as well but .75 for 2 boxes is good enough for me! It’s so upsetting to witness people trying to pull something over the cashier, c’mon people there’s good enough deals that you don’t have to cheat!

I don’t see it, either, but at Safeway (Raleigh Hills) last nite I picked up a MIR for Cheez-It/Coors. Buy 2 Cheez-Its (6-oz or larger) and at least a 9-pack of Coors Banquet or Lite, send in for $4 rebate. Can be separate purchases, valid till 2-10. The crackers are 2/$3 at RA,
so I’ll check out the beer prices at Winco. There should be some good deals on Coors this week; there’s some kind of big football game next Sunday, I hear.

Reply

Howard January 30, 2013 at 12:31 pm

If anyone needs to know, the cheapest Coors at Winco was $10.88 for 9 bottles or 12 cans. The best deal, per unit, was a 24-pack for $16 and change.

Mamma mia, the pizza deal sounds stupendo! One correction–if they’re $5.49 each, then the cost is $10.98 (not $10.49) for 3.
Love their all-meat pizza, wish they had a Hawaiian like Freschetta.

Reply

Melody January 26, 2013 at 3:03 pm

That is hard to write out clearly. The first two would be $5 each since you’re buying in a group of two, the 3rd would be the only one that would ring up at $5.49. Does that make sense?

Reply

Howard January 26, 2013 at 3:16 pm

Got it now. This is part of that new, disturbing trend at RA and Walgreens in which you have to buy multiples to get the best price. At least at Walgreens, they (I think) charge the reduced price for each item over the multiples price, but RA does not, I hear.
Example: 3 for $5, or $1.99 each. If you buy 4 at RA, you’ll pay $6.99 total. At Walgreens, (I think) you’d pay $6.67 total.

Reply

Howard January 27, 2013 at 2:21 pm

Bought 3 pizzas, surprisingly they all rang at $5, so paid $5 net for all 3, $1.67 each. Only pepp and supreme were available, not the all-meat I love.

Reply

charolyn January 27, 2013 at 5:25 pm

I have had that happen before too Howard-expecting to pay more, but still getting the price for 2-when I buy one or a third one. It is random though-wouldn’t count on it.

Where do you find the $5UP reward on the Digiorno? It’s not in the ad….?

Melody January 30, 2013 at 1:19 pm

Unless it’s regional (which I don’t think it is), it is in the ad. It’s part of the big snack promo with a bunch of different food items listed.

Howard January 30, 2013 at 3:46 pm

Ruth, page 16 (back page, lower right) on my ad. Part of the $5 UP on $15 specials. Be aware, lot of RAs are out of these or have minimal variety. I went back today for a 2nd round and all they had were 2 supremes and 1 pepperoni. We don’t eat supreme, so I passed. Might try again later this week; I have about 5 RAs in a 5-mile radius.

Reply

Janene Jones January 26, 2013 at 1:12 pm

Glade Expressions Starter Kit, Pledge, Drano, Scrubbing Bubbles Mega Foamer (22 oz), Extend-a-Clean or Toilet Gel Kit (6 ct) on sale $3.99
Buy 2, Get $3 +UP Reward – limit 2
we got some Buy 1 Get 1 coupons for Scrubbing Bubbles Toilet Cleaning items and there is a $2/2 Scrubbing Bubbles Toilet cleaning products at the SC Johnson website.

So get 4 Scrubbing Bubbles Toilet cleaning gel
use 2 of the B1G1 coupons
use a $2/2 Scrubbing Bubbles toilet cleaning products
pay $5.98 and get (2) $3 +UPs

so it would be free if we can use the coupons together

Reply

Howard January 26, 2013 at 2:50 pm

Thanks, that sounds great. Can we use TWO of the $2/2 cpns in conjunction with two BOGOs on 4 products? If yes, then it’s a moneymaker. RA policy allows use of a cents-off cpn with a BOGO cpn IF the cents-off “cannot exceed the selling price of the item.” So if you’re getting two items for $3.99 (after BOGO), why not use a $2/2 cpn on EACH pair of items?

Reply

Janene Jones January 26, 2013 at 4:55 pm

i didn’t know we can use a cents off coupon on an item that we’d get for free. Can we?

Miss Steph January 26, 2013 at 5:07 pm

Ooh…you are out there in wild territory on that one! I like the question, however. Even though I’m not really down with the BOGO/cents-off combo (I know; Rite Aid allows it even though manufacturers generally don’t), I think it’s really going to depend on the cashier. First of all, I’m guessing that this will probably beep anyways (just because of the combined BOGO/cents-off Qs). The argument that has been made in the past by couponers is that the cents-off MQ is going towards the regularly-priced item. In this case, however, the $2 MQ is going towards TWO items, one of which (in wording, at least) is already free. If you break down the BOGO coupon as making both items half-off, however, then you should still be able to use the $2/2 MQ, along with the BOGO MQ, on two items. (It will still probably have to be adjusted down a penny by the cashier so that his/her till isn’t off.) I think it all depends on how much possible discussion you want to have with a cashier over the subtler nuances of couponing! ;)

Miss Steph January 26, 2013 at 5:26 pm

Janene, generally, no, you can’t. In the past, however, it was difficult for manufacturers to prevent it from happening (other than trying to address it in the fine print). Now a lot of manufacturers are programming their coupons specifically not to work in these scenarios. (Hence, these deals typically “beep” at Rite Aid, and must be pushed through manually.) Rite Aid, however, has gone kind of rogue and now expressly allow (per their latest coupon policy) BOGO and cents-off coupons to used together. I’m thinking at some point down the road they will amend this as manufacturers get wise to them, but for now, it’s their policy.

Brenda January 26, 2013 at 8:35 pm

Yeah, I don’t know about using 2 of the $2/2 coupons. I wouldn’t feel comfortable with it, but it’s a definite gray area so you could see what the cashier says.
Wait, where did you find the BOGO coupon?

Janene Jones January 26, 2013 at 9:08 pm

@Brenda the B1G1 coupons are in the 1/13/13 SS. I think I’ll play it safe and stick to using one of the $2/2 coupons unless I split up the transactions.

Reply

Brenda January 26, 2013 at 9:22 pm

Thank you Janene!

charolyn January 26, 2013 at 9:48 pm

I would too Janene-it is free that way which is great-and looks totally legit to me that way-as you are paying for 2 and thus the $2/2 works on that.

Howard January 27, 2013 at 8:09 am

OK, thanks for the tips, I went to scjohnson.com, jumped thru a few hoops, and printed two $2/2 cpns. If I can find 4 of the items, I will try to use two BOGOs and two $2/2 and see what happens. No price adjustment would be necessary, as I would pay $3.99 X 2, less $4 for the $2/2 cpns, or $3.98 out of pocket and get two $3 UPs. If they don’t have 4 in stock, will buy two and use one BOGO and one $2/2 and see if that works.

Renee January 27, 2013 at 6:44 pm

The $2 off 2 coupon says it can’t be used with any other coupons. So, the computer beeps and won’t pass it through and unless you have a cashier that won’t catch it and is willing to push it through, it won’t work to use both coupons. Such a bummer!

Reply

Howard January 30, 2013 at 12:29 pm

I did this twice at two different stores, both times getting the last 2 in stock. The first time the cashier forced thru the $2/2 after it beeped. The 2nd time, the cashier would NOT force it through, saying it was two man cpns on the same product. I didn’t argue. So I ended up getting 4 just as Janene wrote it up, except they were $3.75 per pair after wellness discount. Paid $5.50, rec’d $6 in UPs.
Thanks, JJ! I am petitioning for a release from Coupon Hell.
