Safeway: $5 Friday and weekend deals

by Brittany from Frugal Living NW on May 24, 2013

$5-Friday-Safeway

The s’mores deal for $5 Friday at Safeway is by far the best deal on s’mores we saw last year. This year will probably be the same. Last year we saw the deal twice, but this could be the only one, so if you can practice self control (unlike me) then you might want to stock up for the summer.

Lucerne Milk (64 oz) on sale $1.25

Smores Package on sale $5
(1 Nabisco Honey Maid Graham Crackers, 1 Kraft Marshmallows, 1 Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bars (6 pack))
Use $1/3 coupon from 5/12 SS insert (DND)
$1.33 each after coupon

Bar S Franks (16 oz) on sale $1
Use $.75/1 coupon
$.25 after coupon

Kellogg’s Raisin Bran on sale $1.67
Buy 2
Use $1/2 coupon
$1.17 each after coupon

Banana Boat Sport Sun Care (6-8 oz) on sale $5
Buy 2
Use $3/2 coupon from 5/19 SS insert (regional?) or $3.25/2 coupon (Thanks, Emily)
Use Safeway double (-$.50)
$3.25 after coupon & double

4-Day Sale (Friday-Monday)

White or Yellow Corn on sale $.25

Best Foods Mayonnaise (22-30 oz) on sale $2.99
Use $1/1 coupon from 5/19 RP insert
Use Safeway double (-$.50)
$1.49 each after coupon & double

Safeway doubles most manufacturer’s coupons to to $.50 each in Oregon and SW Washington. Find more Safeway deals here.

Does anyone know if you can combine the personalized Just 4U offers with coupons and a doubler?

Yes you can as long as the coupon is a manufacturer coupon.

I was able to use the .75 bar S coupon yesterday on the regular dogs and got them for .25. My problem with Safeway today is the website has been down ALL morning and I need to load the new offers! I had my day all planned to shop and get deals! I am afraid that the offers I already have on my card may not work. I was unable to even print out my list! Anyone else have issues with this today? Any advice?

I frequently encounter delays and lack of access to J4U. This new system of “My card” and “My list” makes it harder, not easier the way they claim. The “My list” page doesn’t let me print, only the “My card” page does (stupid!). Remember that $5 Friday deals don’t have to be downloaded to J4U, unless you want to use them Sat-Sun (or Monday on this holiday weekend). Also, many of the weekly deals do not require a J4U download–there often is an in-ad cpn that you can clip. Lately, though, they’ve been offering a lot of download-only J4U deals in addition.

Actually, it’s the other way around; I can print only from “My List,” but I can’t always move everything from My Card to My List.

It was about this tme last year I started couponing. I read this site everyday, sometimes twice a day. We have saved so much money in the last year we will be able to move to a new house in August. So thank you Angela and crew for making this so easy.

Oh! I also found a Lodge cast iron 5 quart Dutch Oven on clearance at Bi-Mart for $19.99, and will be making my first batch of No-Knead bread this weekend.

Keep up the good work, FLNW. I have no complaints. It’s a lot to keep up on. It can’t be perfect…couponing is just that. There will be errors, mistakes and set-backs. But, the end result is amazing because we all still save $.

do you ever read the comments section from your readers? it is getting to be the most valuable section of this site.

I suggest the authors of these various posts check out the comments routinely. Yesterday Angela is on the radio talking about cheap hot dogs when readers have written time and time again that the q she lists is for BEEF not MEAT franks.

Many readers (thank you Howard) have also indicated that the smores q is DND.

I think you have an obligation to correct these mistakes and not keep moving them forward (top grocery deals, Bob Miller listeners, $5 Friday etc).

I actually read the comments often. I already modified the Safeway post from this week once (link above). Sometimes I miss things, but I try hard to keep things current.

I LOVE that Safeway deals get so many comments. It helps everyone to have more accurate deals.

Thank you for acknowledging my post. Maybe you should brief Angela before she goes on Bob Miller each time.

I see the hot dog deal remains even though it is incorrect and the q link doesn’t work either :(

I agree the comments help everyone get more accurate deals. Thank you again for listening.

Oh I must have missed that one. Thank you for your forgiveness Charolyn! It’s true that there is SO much to keep up on. I was occasionally frustrated when things weren’t accurate before I started helping write some of the posts here. Now I understand how hard it is to keep it all current. I am SO thankful for all of the helpful comments people leave.

I’m grateful too:) I’ve learned a lot from these folks and I’ve saved a lot more than I would have been able to without them.

So has someone verified that the Bar S deal doesn’t work? I was able to print out the coupons but don’t want to try it unless I know it works (my Safeway cashiers are not very kind.)

Reply

Steph May 24, 2013 at 11:14 am

It shouldn’t work because the coupon isn’t for the product on sale.

pamela May 26, 2013 at 9:22 am

Safeway cashiers anywhere are not kind

Did the oregonian not get that sunscreen coupon? I’ve checked both my ss & I’m not finding it….:-(

Reply

Emily May 24, 2013 at 8:27 am

I don’t think we did get the sunscreen coupon, but there is a $3.25/2 Banana Boat sunscreen coupon located at http://www.couponnetwork.com/
Hope that helps!

That coupon can also be found on the Target couponing site.

I bought 2 Oregonian newspapers and they are in the paper. This post states 5/19 SS, but the correct info is 5/19 RP
