Safeway: Charmin & Bounty deal

by Angela on March 1, 2010

UPDATE: After reading the comments, it looks like this deal just got a whole lot easier. The original price on the Charmin and Bounty ($12.99 each) is what is calculated for the cat so you only need to buy these items. Here’s the easy scenario:

Buy Bounty Paper Towels = $9.99
Buy Charmin toilet paper = $9.99
Use $.25/1 Bounty coupon from 2/7 P&G insert
Use
$3/1 Charmin eCoupon
Use $3/1 Bounty eCoupon
Use Safeway double (-$.25)
Pay $13.73, Get $10 Catalina
$3.73 after coupons, double & cat

If you’re in need of toilet paper and paper towels, this is your deal! It will work at Safeway today and tomorrow (3/2) only (thanks to Catherine for emailing me these prices!):

Buy Bounty Paper Towels (12 big rolls?) = $9.99
Buy Charmin toilet paper (24 double rolls) = $9.99
Buy Dawn Direct Foam = $2.59
Buy Bounce Dryer Bar = $4.99
Use $.25/1 Bounty coupon from 2/7 P&G insert
Use $1.50/1 Bounce Dryer Bar coupon from 2/21 P&G insert
Use $3/1 Charmin eCoupon
Use $3/1 Bounty eCoupon
Use $.50/1 Dawn eCoupon
Use $1/1 Bounce Dryer Bar eCoupon
Use 2 Safeway doubles (-$.75)
Pay $17.56, Get $10 Catalina
$7.56 after coupons, doubles & cat

This catalina will roll to another P&G promotion or the month-long Frozen Foods Month promotion.

If you don’t want to buy all the items, you can just get the Charmin & Bounty for $13.48 after coupons & double.

Note that the Charmin and Bounty are apart of the Big Sizes, Big Savings promotion: Buy 2, Get each for $9.99. You also need to get at least $25 in participating P&G products to get the $10 catalina.

Thanks, Abundant Food Savings!

Does that mean that you won’t get the catalina when you buy just the Charmin and Bounty?

Reply

Angela March 1, 2010 at 3:31 pm

Correct. Your P&G total needs to be $25 to get the catalina.

Hey all. I just wanted to let everyone know that i did a similar deal and the CAT will not print unless the grand total (after coupons) is $25. I tried it before coupons and it never printed so i had to turn around and get more.

Sorry…

Just wanted to let you know you can buy only the charmin and bounty and you will receive the $10 cat. I have rolled this deal 4 times now, without the ecoupons, and gotten the cat every time buying only the charmin/bounty & no other items. The price is actually based on the regular $13.98 price for the cat. It was the same for some Mr. Clean with Fabreeze cleaners that were $1.99 after you bought 3, but the regular price $3.50 counted toward the cat.

I can confirm that the cat will print with just the Charmin and Bounty. Just did the deal, had $1 Charmin coupon only $1.73 after coupons and cat!!!!

Will the cat not print for just the bounty and charmin if you use e-coupons?

Reply

Jayne March 1, 2010 at 4:52 pm

I did this with the e-coupons and all I bought was the charmin and Bounty and it WORKED!!!!

Erin L March 1, 2010 at 4:53 pm

Great to know….Thanks!! Jayne did you use any other coupons?

How do you get these ecoupons?? Every time I try, it says no coupons available in my area. I even try changing the zip code and it still does not work!

I had the same problem but – what I was doing wrong was that on your profile page – you need to hit the shopper card tab and upload your Safeway card information – make sure you hit done after you enter your card #. I had only inputted my general account information when I registered. After I updated the shopper card tab, the coupons automatically appeared! Hope this helps!

I don’t know what I’m doing wrong but I can’t get the coupons. It keeps saying their not available:( I tried what you suggested Anne and it’s still not working for me. It’s probably right in front of my face and I just don’t get it…LOL

Nevermind…I figured out you have to load your Safeway card in order to see coupons!

Good deal, I went to my local Safeway as I was going to pick up the 2 liter pepsi deal anyway; I loaded the e coupons, the two small value on the charmin and the bounty and had a 1.50 on the dryer bar. Awesome, and thank you. After reading the above comments, I may have go back and buy just the bounty and charmin tomorrow as I got the last of 2 of the items when I was there.

Just went to the Salem Safeway on south Commercial and they had lots left of both the Charmin and Bounty! The checker looked shocked when the $10 came out… with a previous catalina and coupons, I paid $9.48 and got a $10 cat. I paid with a gift card to boot! I even left dinner on the stove and my husband home with the baby so I could run really quick and get my stash! Thanks!

So. Since my last nasty encounter with Safeway I turned my back on them and their good deals. But tonight I was on my last roll of TP and about to go pay whatever I had to at Winco tomorrow, and then I saw your post and tried the deal.

I worked. I rolled it just once so as not to draw attention to myself, and everything went as planned.

When I was driving away, the song “I believe in miracles…” started playing. Coincidence? I don’t know, but I’m about ready to start frequenting Safeway again.

Thanks!

Ok…can someone answer an ecoupon question for me? I’ve been having SOOO much trouble with ecoupons…I’ve had problems signing up for cellfire, with no luck yet and now I’m having trouble with p&g ecoupons…I’m clicking “add” on the coupons I want and my safeway card is loaded in there, but I can’t find if there’s a button I’m supposed to push to actually load them to the card? I’ve stared at that page for so long looking for something. When I click on “selected coupons” to view them, there’s nothing there…am I missing something or does it just take a really long time to load?

charolyn March 1, 2010 at 8:18 pm

I think it adds when you click to go to the next page-before that it does just look like it is checked, but not added. See if this works for you.

Are the p&g esaver coupons 1 time use? I would roll the deal again if i knew the exact same scenario would work, but I have a decent stash of paper goods and would not likely roll it for the full price of 9.99 ea..without the esaver.

I just checked my P&G account and the coupons still say “waiting to be redeemed” but I just used them. The savings came off the first transaction, but not the second. So.. I dunno.

Reply

Erin March 1, 2010 at 7:25 pm

Usually you can only use them once until they reload. It also takes about a day for them to show up as being redeemed.

Will the cat print if you buy 2 charmins, no bounty? Or does it have to be different products? We don’t really use paper towels, so I’m hoping for just the tp. Thanks!

laurie March 1, 2010 at 7:40 pm

yes, the cat will work on 2 charmins, and no bounty. Your oop will be $3 higher due to not using the bounty e-coupon.

Melody March 1, 2010 at 7:45 pm

There are Bounty and Charmin e-coupons on Upromise as well if you are a member. They won’t show up as instant savings on your receipt, but will be added to your savings on your Upromise account.

I was wondering if any of you could help me out, I did this deal (1 Charmin & 1 Bounty) and it worked great.

Now I want to get my mom to do it, but when I sign up her card number @ PG Esaver website I get “Safeway- This is not a valid number. Please remove and re-enter your card below.”

Any help would be awesome. Thanks

Did you sign her up for an account under her number? If so, you may have to do it at a different computer? Maybe the site has a tracking system. Just a thought.

Cali March 2, 2010 at 9:03 pm

Is it a new card? You have to make at least one purchase to activate the new card. Also, be sure to enter the number without spaces.

I did the deal with the Charmin, Bounty, Bounce Dryer Bar & Dawn. I had requested that Save-a-Lot coupon book awhile back & a couple of the coupons matched up with this deal nicely. I had also had a problem with the Bounce Dryer Bar early on & contacted P&G. They kindly went me a free coupon for a new one. I also had already done the Smart Ones deal so I had my $10 frozen food catalina to use.

I paid $2.48 out of pocket & got another $10 catalina. They were AMAZED!

tiffany March 2, 2010 at 7:19 am

cindy, you were really able to use the frozen food cat on the PandG deal? Awesome, I thought it was for frozen food purchases only!

Reply

Melody March 2, 2010 at 12:47 pm

Tiffany – The catalinas are just like cash, so you can use them for anything as long as your total is more than the amount of the catalina. Hope that helps!

Reply

tiffany March 2, 2010 at 5:42 pm

Thanks, the frozen food cat says on it though that it is for $10 off any frozen food purchase…so I didn’t know if the register recognized it the same as traditional cats…or if it really did have to go directly to frozen food only.

So annoyed with myself over $6.00. I did the deal for me and my mother but screwed up (guess going to the store at 6am is not a good time to be thinking). Put the 2 bounty’s together for one order and the two charmin for another order. Was at the checkout line wondering why the high total. Did not dawn on me till I got to the car that I did not seperate the items and instead mixed like items together. Oh well you win some and you lose some.

I had an interesting situation today, I was at Safeway and the lady wouldn’t use my paper coupons because I had e-coupons, so I asked her to double the e-coupons and she did so really I didn’t need the .25 coupons as she took a total 1.00 off for doubling the 2 3.00 e=ccoupons. She also doubled my cellfire and shortcuts coupons too!

Has this happened to anyone? They said a notice was gong around to not accept paper if there were already e-coupons?!

Reply

charolyn March 2, 2010 at 8:37 pm

No I used paper & ecoupons today, no questions asked-at Hillsboro, OR. Although the paper ones were only for .25-so you ended up getting a better deal!

I tried to do this deal in Seattle, WA – but my Safeway had different prices for these. For the Bounty it was reg. price $15.99; and with card $13.99 – so then using the $4 off ecoupon it was $9.99 net.
The same pricing on the Charmin – reg. $15.99…. $13.99…$9.99 net

So to buy both, with card and ecoupons came to $22.xx total!!!
way too much.
I was expecting to pay the $13.98 price – but I returned them, when it turned out to be $22.xx

Does this mean Safeway in Seattle charges higher than other Safeway stores?
