Safeway Deals for August 25-31 + a giveaway

by Angela on August 24, 2010

This week, I’m out-of-town. In fact, I’m not anywhere near a Safeway to even get an ad. So I need all of your help!

Leave a comment with a deal and you will be entered to win a $10 Amazon gift certificate! One deal per comment and only legit deals (meaning cheaper than WinCo or Walmart) will be accepted. You may suggest up to three deals (one per comment, please!) for up to three entries.

Please format your deal scenario this way:

Darigold Butter on sale $2
Use $.50/1 coupon from 8/1 SS insert
Use Safeway double (-$.50)
$1 after coupon & double

Use the coupon database if you need to find which insert a coupon came in. Deals without the coupon location (insert or web address) will not be included in the giveaway.

Giveaway ends tomorrow (8/25) at 9 am. At that time, I will put up the official Safeway weekly deals and announce the winner!

Until then, my family and I will be enjoying the South Carolina beach!

So where do you get the Make a Muscle Coupon Booklet and how do you double safeway coupons?

Reply

Sarah August 25, 2010 at 3:37 pm

For those of us that do not have that coupon book, you can go to Treetop.com and they have $1/2 coupons that can be doubled.

Reply

Sarah August 25, 2010 at 4:07 pm

OOPS. Nevermind, it is only good on Applesauce.

Reply

Sarah August 25, 2010 at 4:17 pm

Ok, you can get V-8 Fusion coupons. Go to http://www.tryv8.com and/or cambellskitchen.com for $1/1. You can double all of them.

My Safeway (two in Hillsboro OR) doesn’t double ANY internet coupons anymore. Yes I am bummed.

Reply

Kelleigh @ Kelleigh Ratzlaff Designs August 26, 2010 at 10:34 am

Oooh! They should! Print out your updated Safeway coupon policy (on their website) and take it to your store. If they still won’t do it, call corporate so they can put the smack down.

Reply

charolyn August 26, 2010 at 4:38 pm

Actually it does say right on the double coupon that they don’ t do internet ones. I think it is new & was surprised to see it also, but sure enough (sadly) it is there.

Hey Thanks for this tip. I went to Safeway tonight and I went to the Dairy case and discovered that there were coupons on the carton! $1 off. So I naturally had to go back and pick up some cereal. I hope I like the Almond Breeze. If not, I am sure it will be awesome in a smoothie with yogurt and tofu (yes I said tofu…it is actually great in smoothies)

Bought 2 Starbucks and 3 Ben & Jerry tonight–and a $2 catalina printed from the Ben & Jerry’s!

Reply

Francoise August 26, 2010 at 2:28 am

I did that Starbucks deal tonight, all 5 with the $1.50/1 coupon, making it $.45 for all 5 pints. That’s $.09 EACH! How can I possibly feel guilty eating ice cream now?

You can do a similar deal with Ben & Jerry’s and get a $2.00 Catalina when you buy 3.

Buy 5 – Ben & Jerrys ice cream on sale $1.99 ea
Use 1 $1.00/2 from 8/15 RP
Use 3 $.50/1 (tearpad found at Wlagreens)
Use Safeway Double (-2.00)
Get $2.00 catalina ONYO
Final Price: $3.45 after coupons, double, & catalins
$.69 EACH!

OR if you don’t have the tearpad coupons…And/or provided that TWO catalinas would print when you buy 6… Try the following deal:

Buy 6 – Ben & Jerrys ice cream on sale $1.99 ea
Use 3 $1.00/2 from 8/15 RP
Use Safeway Double (-$1.50)
Get 2 $2.00 catalinas ONYO
Final Price: $3.45 after coupons, double, & catalina
$.58 EACH!

Can you tell how much I love ice cream?

Reply

Annette August 26, 2010 at 2:41 pm

I don’t think they take store coupons from other stores, only manufacturer coupons with another store’s logo on them. They can’t just be store coupons. They also don’t take register rewards from Walgreens. They’ll take a catalina coupon from another store, but it has to be for a specific item, it can’t be just $2 off.

Reply

charolyn August 25, 2010 at 8:42 am

It is in their ad-usually on the bottom of the second or third page-cut it out and you can double up to 4 coupons-up to .50 each (the coupon can be more than .50, unlike Albertsons, but that is the max they give you). In my area-Oregon, they don’t double internet coupons though, and some coupons say do not double.

Reply

Linda August 25, 2010 at 8:47 am

they may not have “doubles” in your area. If they do, they would be in the Safeway ad – usually inside on the left side of the ad on the bottom – it’s a coupon that you can use up to 4 times in one transaction. It will match your coupons up to .50 cents. (so the most you will get is 2.00 off in one transaction – if you have 4 coupons that are worth .50 or more. You also have to make sure the manufacturer’s coupon doesn’t say DO NOT DOUBLE on it – because if it does, you can’t double that coupon. Make any sense?

There is also a brick coupon, but I’m not sure how to link to it.

And, if you live near an Albertsons get your Kraft dressing there-it’s basically free after the Catalina.

I’d love to hear about the South Carolina trip. My fil has retired there. Dh has lots of fond memories of the beaches there, but we’re torn about whether it would be worth it to haul ourselves and our two boys that far.

I have heard reports that Walgreens has the small size also for $2-but in my Hillsboro OR area I only found the dog food one (coupon is good for either-come to think of it they may have dog food at Safeway also, I only looked for the cat)
and not even at all the stores.

Thanks! I feed our puppy the purina one and of course the cats will eat anything. I never thought to buy cat/dog food at safeway! I will check it out today and let you know the prices at the vancouver store.

can someone explain cellfire couponing to me. I have a cellphone, but don’t websurf or text on it. That probably means it is of no use to me, right? :( THANKS.

Alicia,
you register at cellfire.com with your cell # and your birthday and setup your account with your grocery card savings card (ie: your safeway card) then they w ill email you to let you know when new coupons are available. You login and add all the E-coupons directly onto your safeway card and that’s it. You go shopping and it automatically comes off your bill when you plug in your phone # to save at check out. Does that make sense? It’s called an E-Coupon. ;)

charolyn August 25, 2010 at 10:33 pm

It also works just by swiping your Safeway card.

Thanks Shira, that seems to make sense. So besides running my safeway card through, I also need to punch in my cellphone #? Has this generated any unwanted calls on your cellphone?

Sarah August 25, 2010 at 2:29 pm

I have never had to put my cell # in. Just swipe your Safeway card and your savings come off automatically.

Sorry, I see this was answered already-put in my comment before I read this far!

You only put your cell # in when signing into your account. I have never had any unwanted calls from this sight.

awesome! Thanks so much. I’m still new at all of this and the email account I used gets all kinds of spam. Still working on what will really save me and what is a way of getting me to sign up to buy a bunch of stuff I don’t really want! I’m so excited at more savings possibilities!

ok, I’ve got another question. Can I still use paper coupons in addition? Boy that sounds a little greedy on my part…….just wondering…

Your mileage may vary, but YES. I do! There is nothing in place to prevent it at my store, but some people are reporting problems. I also don’t mention to my checker that I have ecoupons. I stood behind a lady the other day who told her checker all about the ecoupons, which I thought was weird because the checker doesn’t care. LOL! Of course, you may run into a checker who prints out your receipt to see if you have any ecoupons coming off before she scans your paper coupons. Ya never know!

Thanks Kelleigh. It will be an adventure then!

Is this a real deal or did Angela use it as an example of how to list our deals? I don’t see the butter advertised in my Safeway ad nor do I have the coupon in my 8/1 SS (Portland area). I would love to do this if it is real – anyone know where I can find the coupon??

I looked around & think it isn’t a real deal -I was hoping it was also.
