FRUSTRATING!! I have 3 SS’s from 4/25, and there was not one single Capri Sun coupon in any of them!!! I’ve been experiencing this frequently lately, everyone talks about these coupons and then I cannot always locate them. Happened with the Cover Girl Rite Aid Mascara deal that was posted in the last couple of days as well. I’m in Oregon City, so does anyone know what the deal is with my missing coupons?!?!?

Reply

carolyne May 6, 2010 at 8:41 pm

yes, i didn’t have any caprisuns and i, too, was looking for those covergirl coupons for rite aid a few days back…nothing. i get the tacoma tribune (washington).

Michelle May 7, 2010 at 4:09 pm

The capri sun coupon was in the Portland Oregonian and the Gresham Outlook SS inserts. If you are getting other areas they may not have the same coupons. Also, I get both the Oregonian and the Gresham Outlook inserts and the Outlook always has fewer pages, and hence less coupons. Make sure, if you are going to try to maximize your coupon deals, that you are getting multiple copies of the Oregonian insert. Not all inserts are the same.

I live in Oregon City and subscribe to The Oregonian. I don’t know how else to get a better selection of coupons than The Oregonian subscription. I’m presuming that only the version that comes out my way is the only one that I can get. Perhaps I do have to buy another copy from the local Fred Meyer, but I don’t know if the coupon selection will be any different.

When you look at the cheese packages, most of them don’t expire for six months or more! I bought five bricks of the blue-packaged cheddar cheese (my favorite) and will go back later this week for more! (I won’t be a meany and buy it all out today!)

Mommy May 5, 2010 at 4:16 pm

they freeze great too!

Sarah May 5, 2010 at 9:15 pm

What is the blue package? What kind I mean?

Bethany May 5, 2010 at 9:45 pm

I don’t know

it is a white cheddar, my son and I love it too!

Also check out the Wesson Oil as it’s on sale for 2.49 and there are 2 ecoupons ($1 each) I have saved from the past on shortcuts. Also a .25 coupon in past insert (not sure which one) which would make it free when doubled and combined with ecoupons.

Reply

Rhonda May 7, 2010 at 4:04 pm

I also had a $1.00 off Wesson Oil from a Con Agra home mailer I got for spending $25 in December, which made it a money maker.

Reply

Krista May 5, 2010 at 9:38 pm

u are totally right…I had to print them my other laptop. Good to know!!

Reply

carolyne May 5, 2010 at 3:35 pm

how about this:
buy 3 frostings, 1 cake, 2 cookies, 4 brownies –equals $7.56
use 2 $. 50/1 frosting printable
use 1 $. 75/1 cake ecoupon
use 1 . $ 75/1 cake and frosting coupon 3/28 ss
use 1 $.75 cake mix ecoupon
use 2 $.40/1 cookie printables or insert
use 1 $1 cookie/frosting ecoupon
use 2 $.75/2 brownie mix printables
equals $$1.76 w/o “doublers”
i think the $.75/2 supreme brownie coupons work for the ones the family size but the ecoupons don’t come off for it. not sure if the supreme ones are inluded in the sale. if so,, there would be potentially another $1.75/2 from cellfire and shortcuts ecoupons.
can anyone tell if my calcualtions are right?

Reply

carolyne May 6, 2010 at 3:33 pm

Yes, did this deal today. They are priced $1.67 each at my store . b2g3 free. My ecoupons for brownie supremes did not come off but my printables did work fine. And I think I had 2 $.75/1 cake ecoupon, so I ended up paying only $.76 for 10 items…without doublers! If you have doublers, this would be a moneymaker.
Also another good sale is 99 cent goldnsoft butter. buy 2, use $1.50/2 from 3/21 ss. Not only is this only .25 each (w/o doublers) but it helps get to that $50 mark for those areas that got the $10/50 coupon (mine didn’t :(

Reply

charolyn May 7, 2010 at 11:40 am

The supremes aren’t included-just the regular kind=but still a great deal.

Reply

carolyne May 7, 2010 at 3:48 pm

yes, true! but the supreme coupon DOES work for the regular, just not the ecoupon.

Reply

Help! Please clarify!
When you state that you purchase items X, Y and Z, are these items that you actually PURCHASE (and hence you can use your coupons) and then the free items are over and above what you indicated?

I want to try this scenario, but I don’t want to get to the grocery store and have to haggle with a checker, so I want to be very clear on this.

Reply

charolyn May 8, 2010 at 11:12 am

I’m not totally sure I understand your question-but you can definitely use coupons on each item that you purchase. The free ones vary-some times people can use coupons on them-but I’m not so sure in that case, if the checkers are doing it correctly. When I asked at Safeway-they told me you can’t use coupons on the free items. So with the betty crocker-buy 2, get 3 free-you can use paper coupons on the two items you pay for definitely.
Ecoupons are another matter-they will come off, even with a paper coupon-which seems to be fine-I have seen info that is correct. This is true for Safeway anyway, Fred Meyer recently didn’t allow an e and manufacture coupon on the same item-they may have corrected the system.

Reply

coup0nlover May 8, 2010 at 12:52 pm

To clarify my question: Carolyne’s example above was to purchase 10 items, and then she had 10 coupons. So I’m good so far. However, the BC promo is Buy 2 Get 3 Free. Therefore, of the 10 items purchased in the scenario above with 10 corresponding coupons, were there then 15 free items over and above what was purchased, or, in this scenario were 4 of the items purchased/actually paid for and the other 6 were free becauses of the promotion but she was still permitted to use coupons on the free items?

As you indicated, many checkers only allow coupons for the items for which you actually pay for, therefore in her example, she would have only been allowed to use 4 coupons, with the other 6 being free. As one checker told me, it is called “pyramid’ing” when you use coupons on free items, and that is not allowed.

What I’m beginning to understand is that it is really dependent upon the checker …..

THANKS for you clarification!!

Reply

charolyn May 8, 2010 at 2:34 pm

I think Carolyne was buying 10 products-not 25, so she seems to have gotten a checker who would use the coupons on free products. So yes, it seems to be dependent on the checker- & it then becomes a personal choice if you are going to try and do it or not.
My choice is not to do it-I don’t want to get the reputation in my store (which I shop at usually several times a week) of trying to sneak by the system. There already is distrust out there of couponers and I don’t want to add to that. I get a lot of free items at Safeway anyway-so am plenty grateful as it is! And I am also happy to have so much to pass on to others (we are a small family, so can’t possibly use everything I get).

Elizabeth May 5, 2010 at 5:09 pm

With the cheese priced at 3.99/loaf and the 10/50 coupon it is well worth it to really stock your fridge up. The cheese doesn’t expire for quite a while and it is easy to stack in the back of the fridge. I think I got 8 loaves, enough for a few months. I wanted to get more but my husband would be annoyed at the space taken up…

tammy May 5, 2010 at 8:40 pm

Do you freeze them whole or shread them?

Reply

Mommy May 5, 2010 at 9:20 pm

freeze them whole. My hubby complains because the tend to be crumbly sometimes, which makes them hard to slice. Really, I don’t mind. I suppose you could shred as well…never done it that way.

Reply

Rhonda May 7, 2010 at 4:06 pm

The ones I bought the other day don’t expire until February 2011, so they have a long shelf life and won’t need to be frozen.

Quick question, I can’t remember: When you have 2 ecoupons for the same item, and you buy 1 of that item, will both ecoupons be taken off? Or just one per item?

Reply

Bethany May 5, 2010 at 9:47 pm

I think it is just one per item

Reply

Karissa May 5, 2010 at 9:58 pm

For me it seems that 1 ecoupon will come off for 1 item but w/shortcuts 2 ecoupons will come off for 1 item.

Reply

Mommy May 6, 2010 at 8:56 am

Yes, 2 will come off with shortcuts!

Amber @ couponconnectionsnw May 7, 2010 at 1:12 pm

I bought the Wesson Oil and Two came off with Short cuts. I also stacked with the $0.25 coupon that we had and only paid: $0.24!

charolyn May 8, 2010 at 11:13 am

I had the same experience with the Wesson oil-which was a nice surprise, I didn’t know I had two e coupons even!

Reply

Mel May 5, 2010 at 9:37 pm

For me, they usually both come off for some reason. Even if they are saved from the same website. I kinda feel guilty about it, like it is cheating the system in some way, but really there is nothing I can do about it.

I got 5 Capri Suns and 4- 2 liters of cherry 7-up for $0.61!! There is a printable coupon somewhere out there and 7-up is $0.99 when you buy 4.

Kelly May 6, 2010 at 7:08 am

I went nuts with the cheese last night. Its hubs favorite and honestly if it’s sealed I don’t think you have to freeze it. I’ve got a big refrigerator in my garage, so there’s room so I bought 8 blocks…for a family of 3. Oops, maybe a bit overboard, but they had an end cap chock full of these things, including the blue package kind AND Monterey Jack! In the end I paid $28. Did the BC and Capri Sun deals and put my total over $50 so I could use the $10/50. The head cashier in Happy Valley took it gladly before all my coupons, I was SO happy! And she was so excited for me saving so much money. I love good cashiers!!

Are the Capri Sun coupons only for the Sunrise kind? I can’t find regular ones and try to buy the 100% juice ones. Thanks

Reply

charolyn May 7, 2010 at 11:43 am

I noticed today the 100% juice type aren’t included in this sale-I would have wanted that type also-so am getting the Welches & V8 fusion instead-which are 100% juice.

Freezing cheese – whole vs. shredded

When I would freeze whole, I agree, the cheese would then become crumbly when slicing later on. I now shred it and freeze it. Easy to grab and use in an omelet, etc. I suppose you could shred part of the brick and freeze and keep another portion in the frig just for slicing. And what is the 10/50 mentioned above by Elizabeth?

Thanks frugal and all members for all the great tips!!

Kelly May 6, 2010 at 9:54 am

The $10/50 was in the Oregonian’s Food Day on Tuesday.

I bought the wesson oil. Had two ecoupons for $1/1 wesson oil. Only one of the coupons came off. Also if you ordered the conagra foods coupon booklet there is a $1/1 coupon for wesson oil in it. NLA

Reply

Michelle May 6, 2010 at 9:29 am

Two ecoupons for $1/1 wesson oil came off for me today. I only expected one, but thankfully I had enough to absorb it. With the $1/1 conagra plus one doubler it ended up being a $1 moneymaker! I tried this ecoupon before and I bought the “Best Blend” and it did not come off. This time I bought the canola and they both came off.

Is the happy valley safeway the one on sunnyside? I live in Milwaukie and none of the three stores around here will take the $10/50 before coupons. If it worked for you I think I might head over to that safeway and give it a try. Just wanted to confirm it’s the one on sunnyside.

Reply

Kelly May 6, 2010 at 9:53 am

Yes Carrie, it’s the one on Sunnyside. I still think it’s a ymmv, but the cashier’s badge clearly said she was Head Cashier or Clerk or something, and she scanned it before all of my other coupons and was happy to do so. Good luck!

Lipton to go is part of the “buy 5, save 5″ juice deal. I had two $1 coupons for any Lipton product loaded to my Safeway card via shortcuts.com and they both came off when I purchased 1 Lipton to go (in conjunction with 4 other juice products).

Reply

carolyne May 6, 2010 at 3:34 pm

Okay, so I got a great deal but I can’t share it with the ENTIRE world cuz they’ll think I’m nuts for buying all of these sweet things!

Today I paid $0.97 for
2 Brownie Mixes
2 Cookie Mixes
2 Cake Mixes
4 Frosting Tubs
2.9lbs of Bananas (A must have in our house and we were out!)

Plus I got a $1 off coupon for Starbucks Ice Cream (is this a new Catalina or just a random coupon???)

I saved $23.37 or 96% with $3.50 in eCoupons, $1.50 in newspaper coupons, 2 $0.50 doublers, and the rest printable coupons and sale savings. Pretty good for a newbie :D

At the end, you get 15 oz. of frozen wild salmon for $2.79 !

A good deal!
****************************************

Waterfront Bistro Wild Salmon (microwaveable – Santa Fe flavor – frozen) 15 oz. regular price is $8.99

1. now on sale for $5.99 (until May 11th).

2. using your Safeway shoppers card, get an online digital coupon from http://www.safeway.com for “$2 off Waterfront Bistro MICROWAVEABLE fish (10.5 – 15 oz.)”

To get the e-coupon, you have to register your Safeway shoppers card online, and then load the selected e-coupon to it.

3. use a paper coupon, from the Safeway store booklet “Make It Tonight”. You can find this booklet, in a plastic rack, on top of the counter with FRESH fish deli at your local store. Inside the first page is a paper coupon for “20% off Waterfront Bistro frozen fish”.

So, go to the frozen foods aisle, buy the one WFB wild salmon MICROWAVEABLE Santa Fe flavor 15 oz. for $5.99 (minus your e-coupon $2) (minus the paper coupon of 20% off is $1.20), the net price you pay is $2.79

which is a very good price for wild salmon.

I was at Safeway today & finally the mini kraft cream cheese was in-got 3 + 2 of the kraft cubed cheeses (with coupons of course), but didn’t get the buy 5/get $5. Was that supposed to be a catalina?
Also bought 4 general mills cereals (the honey nut cheerios & cinnamon toast) & expected a GM catalina-does anyone know anything about that also? Is it not at Safeways? I can call the catalina number too and check-but want to know if anyone else knows first.
Thanks- PS I did get lots of good deals-including the scrubbing bubbles extend a clean & refill-which was a money maker! I have been waiting for some time for that to come in also.

Reply

Dina May 7, 2010 at 3:32 pm

Has anybody found out about the cereal? My plan was to get two cin toast crunch and two honey nut cheerios. I should be a great deal if I get Catalina’s on top of my ecoupons? Any confirmations on getting $4?

not sure about the gm cereal, but charolyn wasn’t the cheese deal save $5 on 5 last week? don’t remember hearing about it this week. btw – what was your scrubbing bubbles deal?

Reply

charolyn May 7, 2010 at 7:54 pm

I did call the catalina number today & they already got back to me (they are very helpful)-sadly Safeway – at least my store (Hillsboro OR), isn’t participating in this catalina :-( I would have only gotten one of each if I had known that-which with e & manu coupons would still be great-this way was only fair. I did get a free large bottle of Wesson oil though-which was a surprise-didn’t know I had 2 ecoupons.
The Kraft sale signs were still up by other Kraft products, and other people had reported it working on these two items (even though the signs weren’t by them)-so I am hopeful I may still get that one. I am going to check back with the store about that one tomorrow.
The Scrubbing bubbles deal was great: there is a $5 SS coupon on the power sprayer starter (was on sale for 6.99 I think), also an internet coupon for a free refill, then you get two catalina’s-$3 & $1 (pretty sure-can’t find my receipt just now). I was able to get another internet coupon & have more of the SS ones, so am going to do it again tomorrow also! :-)

Michelle May 7, 2010 at 4:21 pm

The Kraft cheese deal ended May 6. Kind of an odd day to end, but I saw it on the signs.
Here is the Scrubbing Bubbles deal:
Buy 1 Scrubbing Bubbles Extend-A-Clean $6.99
use $5.00/1 4/11 SS
Buy 1 Scrubbing Bubbles Extend-A-Clean refill
use Buy Scrubbing Bubbles starter get free refill (scrubbingbubbles.com)
Use one Safeway double (-.50)
Pay $1.49, get back One $3 cat and One $1 cat.
Some safeway cashiers double my B1G1 coupons, which I totally do not expect, in this case it brought my oop down to .99.
This goes thru 5/16, but I am not sure of the price of the starter. Last week it was 6.99.

My checker at the 185th/Cornell Safeway wouldn’t let me use coupons on the 3 cookie pouches because I was getting them “for free.” She also brought up the point that I also had ecoupons, and then I brought up that that has nothing to do with anything. SOOOOOO frustrating!

Reply

charolyn May 7, 2010 at 7:59 pm

I did ask about that before I bought these items & they said you can only use 2 coupons (manu-I didn’t mention I had ecoupons also!). That makes sense to me so I didn’t argue, as you are only paying for two items. I don’t try to do more, even though I have read that sometimes -some places &/or with some checkers it works.
