The math is wrong on the Hamburger Helper/Mac&Cheese/Cheerios scenario–(2) $0.55 coupons = $1.10, not $2.20. It still comes out to be free, but no overage. Right?

Reply

Angela June 1, 2010 at 10:24 pm

Wow. How did I mess that one up? Thanks for fixing my math!

Reply

lisa June 1, 2010 at 11:35 pm

so, i see the amount was changed to 1.10, and there is still .75 overage, or just free?? I am coming up with just free, but always doubt myself this late. thanks

Reply

Angela June 2, 2010 at 8:14 am

Ahhh! You’re right!

Reply

CK June 1, 2010 at 11:09 pm

well,

doesn’t it automatically become free for mac&cheese if you buy 8 and save $4 anyway?
49cents a pack x 8 = 3.92
when you save $4.00 there is 8 cents overage????

Reply

Kim June 2, 2010 at 7:53 am

The .49 price already reflects the .50 discount you get when you purchase eight item.

Reply

Sheila June 3, 2010 at 3:40 pm

but it will be free or practically free witht he coupons and doubles.

Scenario:

Buy 8 boxes
Price after buy 8 save $4= $3.92
Use 4 .55/2 coupons = $1.72
Use 4 doubles= free plus .28 overage!!!

Adam June 1, 2010 at 11:11 pm

Watch for tearpads for rebate on Snapple 6 packs. Rebate is good for up to $6.99 making the “best stuff on earth” free

Reply

CK June 1, 2010 at 11:13 pm

oh now I get it, the 49 cents is the price with the 50 cents taken of for buy 8 save 4 :( (( sorry for the older post…

Bummer . . . I just tried getting the Snapple coupon on my Safeway card and it said there were no coupons available to put on my card. Anyone else try doing this??

Reply

sandiemamma June 5, 2010 at 12:26 pm

Take the time to e-mail the company. I did -it asks for all your information and then tells you they don’t have any more and then they have all your info for nothing. They absolutely could say from the get-go that they are out of coupons, but they still want your information. I told them I didn’t think they were very trust worthy in a nice way.

I got several catalina coupons from Safeway last week on the SOBE lifewater: BOGO-others may have some also.

Reply

charolyn June 2, 2010 at 10:21 am

Also Fiber 1 granola bars are included-there is an ecoupon for those also.

Reply

Christina June 2, 2010 at 12:13 pm

I went to Safeway last night to use my $10 off of $50 coupon I got from Tuesday’s Oregonian. My total after Safeway Club discounts and Safeway store coupons was over $50 and the cashier told me that it has to be also after manufacture coupons. The $10 coupon DOES NOT state that but she would not budge! I called their customer service hotline and she said the same thing but admitted it could be misleading. DUH!
I’m a little annoyed and wanted to know if anybody else has had that problem. I’m going to write a letter to corporate and try to get some answers.

Reply

Kelly June 2, 2010 at 3:22 pm

That happened to me too once so I just gave up trying, it was really embarassing, BUT when they had the Tillamook cheese I knew I was going to stock up, so I thought I’d try again. I did some coupon items and the cheese, my total was barely over $50, my cashier took the $10 coupon first and then did all my other coupons. I spent $23 for 8 blocks of cheese, and a bunch of items that ended up being free with the coupons. She even congratulated me on my savings. It’s so frustrating Safeway is a total ymmv.

bonnie79 June 2, 2010 at 9:45 pm

ugh…I am afraid to use the $10/50! On the coupon it says $50 after store coupons ect, but not anything about man Q’s. Does anyone have any advice if I get a cashier that wants to give me a hard time? Is there anything on the web about their policy?

Reply

Sara June 3, 2010 at 9:18 am

It completely depends on the individual store and sometimes the manager on duty! I have had luck at the Canby Safeway, but never at the Bridgeport Safeway. My advice is to always ask at the customer service counter BEFORE you start shopping. Simply explain that you have received conflicting information and would like to know what their store policy is. Then if a cashier gives you grief, just say that (get the name) at customer service said it was before Man Qs. I have also found that cashiers who works early in the morning are much more flexible than cashiers who work the busy hours.

Reply

diana June 3, 2010 at 11:49 am

Also, you can just ask them to scan it. It WILL work after they scan man Qs IF the total was above $50 after all store Qs, discounts, doubler and EQs. So i often just let the scan it last (as they are trained) and if they are hesitant, i ask them to just try it, and if it wont work I will not push it. This has worked for me so far, and I have trained all my cashiers now! :D

Kristin H June 3, 2010 at 7:09 pm

My friend and I have talked to corporate. She did so extensively. The $50 is after you swipe you club card and give them super coupons but before you give them mq’s and doubles. A few months ago this happened to me. After a call to corporate by my friend and calls to our local Safeway by corporate, I was able to take back my receipt and get my $10 handed to me. Don’t give up on this!!!

Reply

charolyn June 3, 2010 at 7:58 pm

Wow-good to know-I never thought it was an option before manu coupons!
Thanks for pursuing this & for the info.

Reply

Christina June 3, 2010 at 11:35 pm

Thanks for the heads up. I went back in and asked the store manager and he said it was after all coupons. It’s frustrating when the managers don’t even know whats going on.
Which Safeway did you go to? I went to the one in Happy Valley on Sunnyside. Maybe I need to switch stores!

Reply

Apryl June 15, 2010 at 4:15 pm

I posted a couple of nights ago about this same thing. I went in At night and i toiled trying to gather enough product after coupons to meet my $50 requirement Oh the math!!!! When I got to the register the cashier ran it right after they ran my Club card. I was so happy that was so much easier. Then the next week I only gathered my $50 worth after sale price not after coupons and all be darned if this clerk pulled my $10 coupon and set it aside and ran all my coupons first. I was back down to less than $20 and had to scramble to find $30 more to meet the $50 requirement. I was sad and angry the coupon does not state after MQ’S but whatever I still scored. I got 83 items @ .53 cents each that included 2 bags of briquettes and massive amounts of sobe lifewater YUM!!!

Kara June 2, 2010 at 12:20 pm

Where do I find the Safeway doubles coupons?

Reply

Christina June 2, 2010 at 12:31 pm

They are in the Safeway ad. Usually in the inside pages towards the bottom. There is just one coupon that will double up to 4 coupons, up to 50 cents each.

Reply

Holly June 2, 2010 at 1:24 pm

Totally off topic- I have 4 ink cartridges that I’d like to give them away. I was so excited to fill up empty cartridges when Walgreens had the $1 sale- and then my printer broke! We had to buy a new one so now I can’t use the refills and don’t know anyone who can. So….if you can use HP 56 and 57 ink cartridges email me at holly2@pdx.edu and I’ll respond to the first person who emails me. If I don’t respond to you within a week you can assume I’ve already given them away.

Reply

Christina June 3, 2010 at 11:22 pm

If you still have them – I would love to take them off your hands. I think mines on its last leg too. Probably over worked from all the coupon printing I’ve been doing! Now its printing REALLY slow so I’ve been wondering if its the cartridges or the printer. Probably should replace but I’m holding out till its completely broken.
I live in Happy Valley and can meet you at a Target.
Thanks!

Thanks for a great matchup! I linked my readers your way this week. One thing I picked up that’s not on your list is O Organics tofu. It’s on sale this week for $1.49 and part of the buy 8 promo (so FREE after $1 O Organics q- found in the pharmacy- if bought as part of your 8 items).

FYI — last night at the Sherwood Safeway none of my buy 8 save $4 deals worked. I came home, relooked up all the info, called a manager and then had to go back to the store. They ended up refunding me the $18, but it was a huge hassle and thank goodness I noticed it. Double and triple check your reciepts!!

Can you buy 16 items in one transaction and have $8 come off, or do you have to separate your transactions?

Reply

Lindsey June 3, 2010 at 12:04 pm

You don’t have to seperate, after 8 items they just continually take $.50 off each additional item.

One pleasant surprise was that the ecoupon for the Minute Maid 64 oz came off-I thought it was only for the larger size. With the $1 coupon from the dairy coupon book= free!!

Reply

Hello Charolyn, I was reading your post and what $1.00 coupon are you using from the dairy book? I have 3 books and I don’t have Minute Maid in any of them.

Reply

Sorry-I just remembered I got that one out of a box of cereal that had 5 /$1 breakfast coupons. Check your cereal stash=it was one of the mini wheats.

Does anybody know which Safeways carry the Safeway June coupon book? I can’t seem to find it anywhere and when I ask any of the employees, including the manager, they don’t know what I’m talking about.

yay, I’m excited to be able to stock up on macaroni and cheese again! Also Kraft has a Delicious Summer Savings Rebate. Buy $30 get $10. Last day 6/13. It looks like something I got in the mail, possibly from the USPS free coupons and snacks that hip2save posted about. But I can’t be sure.

I just got back from Safeway in Hazel Dell, Vancouver and the cashier told me they are no longer taking internet coupons that are printed in black and white because they could be fraudulent. After I protested that mine weren’t, she talked to another cashier and said she’d take them this time, but this is their new policy.

I seriously hope this isn’t the case since color ink is expensive!!! Also, this policy makes no sense. You either accept internet coupons or not – photocopies exist in color AND black and white. It sucks too that some people ruin it for the rest of us!

3 Starbucks non-coffee pints of ice cream
2 Kraft Mac & Cheese
2 Sobe Lifewaters

I just got back from Safeway and had a great shopping trip. I had a ton of mfr. coupons and was crossing my fingers that I would be able to use the $10 of $50. My total before any savings was $116.03…after Safeway club card and coupon savings it dropped down to $57.96. Yippee so I figured I would be able to use the the food day coupon. After mfr. coupons, it went down to $31.51. She told me that I couldn’t use the $10 of $50 because it was supposed to be after all coupons, I told her that it doesn’t say that on the coupon and I asked her if she could run in through anyway (I was really nice about it). Wouldn’t you know it worked, she told me it wasn’t supposed to but let it go. So I paid $21.51 out of pocket and got back $7 worth of Catalina’s:) My secret weapon is my one year old son, he charms all the cashiers:)

Just returned from shopping and scored two Bull’s Eye sauces, two NV Nut clusters and four BC fruit shapes. Total OOP: nothing – they actually paid me .58! I’d hoped to receive the $2 cat for the fruit shapes but this cat is only for the fruit by the foot & gushers (items not part of the buy 8 promo). Still a great deal though! : )
