Make sure you check the current list of Catalina promotions before you plan your deals. See more Safeway deals here.
Most of these deals use a Safeway double coupon, which is available at Oregon & SW Washington (Wahkiakum, Cowlitz, Clark, Skamania & Klickitat Counties) Safeways only. You can double up to 4 manufacturer’s coupons per transaction, up to $.50 each. You may not double a coupon marked with “Do Not Double” or an internet printable coupon. The double coupon is found in the weekly ad at the bottom of the middle page and look’s like this:

Thank you!
I would never have thought to try using the coupon on an actual pomegranate!
My husband’s favorite fruit. Will have to get some tonight when I’m out.
How do you eat them? Do you prepare them or just eat raw?
We just open them up and eat the seeds raw. I’m not sure if there is any other way to do it.
Covered in chocolate:)
the seeds are fun to freeze. makes a good slushy snack! It’s yummy, try it!
I love to eat them one seed at a time. Make sure you are wearing dark clothing!
Haha Heather, I always forget with the first pomegranate of the season! Thanks for posting this. Our family loves pomegranates.
He breaks them open in a bowl of water and just eats them. Good mixed into a salad. I’ve had them as a sauce over chicken at a restaurant.
Does anyone know WHERE in the store the POMx bars are? Couldn’t find them to save my life!
Endcap @ beginning of produce section @ my store
They were right in the middle of the product section for me.
My nephew calls the seeds Nemo eggs! I thought that was so cute. Thanks for the coupon.
I bought 2 of the bars for free and discovered when I got home this expired last month. I am sure they are find to eat though, I hope lol.
When I buy the actual fruit I spend the time to remove all the seeds and keep them in a container in the fridge. Lets you get all the stained mess done at once and I can just scoop some out.
The store manager at the Safeway on 185th in Tanasbourne (Hillsboro) refused to accept the POM coupons, saying Safeway corporate policy is not to accept Internet coupons that make things free. I checked the Safeway coupon policy and it has some vague language that could be interpreted this way. I sent an email to the corporate email address asking for clarification, hopefully they will fix this. Pretty annoying to go to the store and come back empty handed!
I am so mad for you! I HATE dealing with this particular Safeway store! They always get it wrong when it comes to coupons. The official Safeway coupon policy is not to accept internet coupons that are expressly for free items (i.e., a coupon good for “one free bag of Doritos”). Almost all manufacturers are wise to the problems with offering free coupons over the internet and thus, you hardly ever see them. Instead, they are typically found either in print (like in the weekend circulars) or are mailed/given out directly from the manufacturer. Regular internet coupons, however (i.e., coupons that offer a certain cents/dollars off or BOGO) are most certainly accepted at Safeway, EVEN if the final result is getting the item for free. (That’s just called good couponing!) I would most certainly follow up with corporate on this one. I can’t tell you how many times I have had to make calls to higher-ups to get things fixed with Safeway in general. In fact, I just had to do it the other day and guess what? In the end, I was told I WAS right! Hmm.
Ditto for troubles at this store, even with my favorite cashiers. Latest deal was this past week, Thursday. Bought 7 items….four were coupon deals. The Kraft Parmesan cheese tubs are $2.50..they were regular $4.99. There are doublable coupons hanging in the cheese aisle, $1 each. I look at my receipt when I was leaving and I was only given credit for two coupons and two doubles. I went back immediately and after waiting at least 10 minutes for the cashier to get the “coupon box” key from CS, she opened her coupons and found three. I said, do you want me to grab another from the shelf….there are tons of them over there. I said, I gave you four. After more fiddling around, voila, there were four coupons she had put in the box. So I got my “adjustment”. This type of stuff is happening almost EVERY TRANSACTION at this store and other Sways in Beaverton area. Very frustrating.
I hear ya–been there done that. In fact with this same location.
I just went to the Sunset Esplanade Safeway in Hillsboro – they gave me no problems using the POM coupons for the meal bars. I did contact corporate about the one on 185th, their response is below. The manager at 185th was in the wrong – next time I will demand they call corporate and get the manager’s name if they do not.
Mr. XXXXX,
Thank you for your recent correspondence regarding our Coupon Policy with regards to the situation you described.
We have provided you with the following Coupon Policy information to ensure that you are well informed of our practices with coupons.
We will redeem coupons only for the specific items included in our customer’s purchase transaction. The redemption value will be as stated on the coupon, unless that value yields a final price for such item less than zero; if application of the redemption value yields a price less than zero, the coupon will be redeemed only for the amount that yields a zero price (our customer cannot net a cash credit or payout from a coupon purchase).
According to our policy your coupon could have been adjusted down to $0.99 and have been used in that situation. All final decisions with regards to the acceptance of coupons is to the Store Manager’s discretion. We apologize for the inconvenience you experienced. We certainly understand your frustration. We have directed your comments to the Store Manager for review and to ensure all associates are aware of this policy. We appreciate you bringing this matter to our attention.
Mr. XXXXXX, should you require further assistance, you may reply to this email or phone us at 1-877-723-3929 and reference Contact ID #######. One of our associates will be happy to assist you.
Thank you for shopping at Safeway.
Sincerely,
Safeway Customer Service Team

And here is the original email I sent to corporate:
—————————-
I was at my usual Safeway today (185th ave @
Tanasbourne in Hillsboro, Oregon). I had an
Internet coupon for $1 off POM bars, which
apparently were on sale for $0.99. The manager
claimed that they could not allow me to use my
coupon. This surprised me, as the coupon wasn’t
“Get a free POM bar”, which according to your
policy would not be acceptable, but instead was
simply $1 off.
Can you please clarify your store policy? I was
very annoyed and embarrassed to have the manager
of this store question me and refuse to accept my
coupon, especially as Safeway gets fully
reimbursed by the manufacturer. If this is indeed
the policy it seems arbitrary and nonsensical.
Thanks David for your hard work. This is exactly the coupon policy. I live in Lakewood, Washington. Safeway will not accept IP coupons for ‘FREE” items – not making the item free when one uses a coupon! UGGGGG. How frustrating for ya’ll!!!
I’d boycot that 185th in Tanasbourne (Hillsboro) Safeway. They aren’t the only game in town!
The Tanasbourne (Hillsboro) location needs some serious employee coupon training. I once had a manufacturer coupon for $5 off an item that was on sale for $3.88 and they would not adjust my coupon down as I politely requested… they said it was not their coupon to adjust! Something so basic.
The policy [which I wasn't aware of until now] is only stating that the store will not give more than the item is priced at, which makes sense–but, the stores are just attempting to blurr the lines b/c they don’t understand that they WILL get reimbursed for the amount on the coupons.
Way to go David… we APPLAUD your actions!!
Yesterday I was at Fred Meyer. Pomegranetes there are selling 2 for $6, so this is a good deal at Safeway. Will try it at the Ocean Beach Safeway here in Longview and hopefully there won’t be any snags like the one David encountered at Tanasbourne.
Thanks for the heads up!
BTW: the banana bar was deemed “gross” by my kids and myself, but the vanilla yogurt covered ones were a HIT! Haven’t tried the choco/coffee covered ones tho, but I’m hopeful they are good.
FYI for those wondering… the POM LITE coupons ($1 off) DO (!!!) work for the regular POM juice and it is ONLY the regular 100% POM juice that’s 50% off, not the blends or the lite variety. So the 16 oz bottle at my store (Salmon Creek Vancouver) was $1.99 less the $1 coupon and $.50 doubler made them $.50. A great price! I love to miss this with a Sprite Zero over ice for a guilt-free fizzy something.
Carrie, please remove your post about using a coupon incorrectly. Those coupons should only be used on the “Lite” variety and not the regular juice. I consider this coupon fraud and I’m sure a lot of other people would too. Just because the coupon doesn’t beep, doesn’t mean you can use it on that product.
Thank you.
totally agree

Jenn Bane… say what… do you work for Safeway ?
No I don’t work for Safeway. I don’t want other people thinking they can use the coupon on a wrong item. Do YOU think it’s okay to use a coupon on a different item because it will “work”? If so, then do whatever you please.
Here is some more information on what almost everyone would agree with (I’m sure some don’t know or just don’t care about using a coupon incorrectly) http://www.hotcouponworld.com/community-rules/coupon-fraud/
