Safeway: Updated deals + a great scenario

by Angela on August 19, 2010

There are a few deals I missed that our readers pointed out in the Safeway deals post’s comment section. Note that some of these I have not personally confirmed, so, as we say in the deal biz, your mileage may vary!

Plus, there’s a gift card promo running through Tuesday: Buy $25 worth of participating items (P&G products), Get $10 coupon for a gift card. You may be able to use this $10 Catalina to buy a $10 Safeway gift card and roll the gift card to a second deal transaction.

Here’s a great scenario from Amber at Coupon Connections NW:

Buy 4 Herbal Essence Shampoos @ $2.99/each = $11.96
Buy 4 Herbal Essence Stylers @ $2.99/each = $11.96
Buy 1 Crest Toothpaste @ 2.49 = $2.49
Use 4 BOGO Herbal Essence coupons from 8/1 P&G insert (-$11.96)
Use $.75/1 Crest coupon from 8/1 P&G insert (-$.75)
Use Safeway double (-$.50)
$13.20, Get $10 Catalina

$3.20 for everything if you can indeed use the $10 cat on a Safeway gift card.

For the OEP taco shells, there is also a $.50/1 mq from a recent insert that can be doubled, or there is also a $1/2 tp from earlier this year that can be used to make this a money maker, or very cheap :)

I haven’t actually checked the prices at my Safeway yet, but online it lists the price for the Progresso at $1.33 a can, not a dollar. This makes the soup $0.46 each after coupons and Catalina.

Too bad the 99cent coupons expired on Tuesday!

I checked at my store, and the cheapest ones are $1.33. Still not a bad deal, though, especially when you factor in the new e-coupon.

At my safeway, the peelies were only on the $2 taco shell kit boxes. So I bought one $2 kit, 2 of the cheap boxes with the cellfire coupon, and the $1 can of beans. Still a great deal!

I’d have to double-check, but I think the $10 toward a $25 gift card Catalina excluded Safeway gift cards. There are dozens of options, though, so it shouldn’t be difficult to find a worthy substitute!

The $25 gift card cat excluded SW gift cards :(

I bought the Herbal Essences yesterday with the Cheer, and the catalina did not print. When I called catalina they said not all the stylers were included, and even though they were all tagged I would have to take it up with the store. So, if you are doing this deal, take note that the store may have them tagged even if they aren’t included.

On another Safeway note, I noticed that with the cellfire coupons that match the Muscle coupon book , only one comes off at a time, and it is the one with the farthest expiration date! You would think they would apply the closest expiration first!

Carol – I bought Mission tortilla chips the other day and both of my eCoupons came off on the same transaction. This was one of the coupons in the Muscle coupon book, right?

Ok, just got back from Safeway where I did the $10 giftcard promotion:

Bought 4 Olay facial cleaner at 6.29 each- $25.16
a $1 ecoupon came off, I think from P &G
Used 2 B1G1 coupons for Olay facial cleanser- 7/11 SS -$12.78
So I paid $11.58
Then you get the giftcard coupon…so minus $10.
That is $1.58 for 4 facewashes!
Plus…I am saving the receipt for the Olay rebate $10 back when you buy $30, I just need to buy $5 more of Secret, Pantene, Olay, Venus, or Covergirl. I’m pretty happy!

And no, you can’t use the giftcard coupon on Safeway giftcards.

Did the Old El Paso deal, and two ecoupons came off! SO, even though I didn’t have a OEP MC, I ended up paying 28ยข TOTAL for two packages of shells and one can of beans!

ALSO, there is a Skippy $1/2 MC in the Albertson’s ad! Plus, a few ice cream MCs that should match up with the Safeway ice cream deal.

if you have been adding your e-coupons, i had (2) .55/1 sargento cheese slices , plus there was a coupon for .55/1 in the muscle coupon book that can be doubled, so that is free cheese!

Betty Crocker Supreme bars are priced at 2/$4, I had four .75/2 e-coupons, plus a .75/2 insert coupon, so .25 for 2 boxes.

I tried the Progresso deal and no catalina printed. I got a ton of other catalinas that were mostly ads, so I know the machine was working and everything. Has anyone actually got the cat at Safeway?
