Trader Joe’s: Organic Coconut Oil $5.99

by Kate from Frugal Living NW on January 4, 2012

Look what I found at Trader Joe’s the other day — Organic, virgin, coconut oil for just $5.99 for 16 oz glass jar. I was so excited about this because Amazon deals have been pricey this last year (it is currently $6.75 for Subscribe & Save if you don’t live near a Trader Joe’s which is the best it’s been in a few months). It was found near the baking section on an end cap. Let’s hope they keep it around for a while.

I love using this in my baked goods, treats and breads, but I’m not a big fan of it in my savory dishes. It might go well cooking chicken for a Thai dish. Does anyone have any good savory, dinner dishes they like to use coconut oil in?

I’ve been using this particular brand of organic, unrefined coconut oil for about a year now. I, too, appreciate that Trader Joe’s uses glass jars. And, in my humble opinion, there’s not one thing it does not enhance in terms of flavor. For example, I’ve found it’s a great substitute for butter in everything from oatmeal to popcorn. So, it’s pretty versatile. It even makes toasted bread taste better! In fact, I’ve used it for everything but Thai recipes.

The greatest benefit, however, is in found in the numerous ways it supports good health. It has helped me with my energy and weight control.
