Ten for Teens Giving Project Update
I just returned from the post office where I was thrilled to find packages from all over the Pacific Northwest filled with 36 gift cards! Each $10 gift card will be given to a teen in foster care in the Portland Metro area this Christmas.
What an absolute joy it was to open each envelope to see what was waiting inside. We received gift cards to Dutch Bros., Fred Meyer, Target, Einstein Bros Bagels, Starbucks, and more! The best part was reading the sweet personal messages written to accompany each gift card.
Aren’t these the best Christmas cards? It doesn’t take a bunch of effort to include your kids, grandkids, or neighborhood kids in this project — even the smallest child can participate by drawing (or scribbling). After looking through the envelopes, my kids starting talking about what gift cards they wanted to give. Audrey is dead set on giving a Dutch Bros. card. Smart girl.
I’ve received emails from a Brownie troop who have decided to make this their service project. Adair Homes in SW Washington is donating 50 gift cards. A martial arts athlete is setting up a donation spot as his project. A woman-owned small business owner is donating 100 gift cards. A volunteer organization has selected Ten for Teens as their Christmas party’s donation recipient.
The possibilities are endless! Make sure you check out our big list of Holiday Gift Card Deals to make your donation dollars go even further!
Here’s an update on this giving project’s actual numbers:
# of teens in foster care in the Portland Metro area: 930
# of gift cards received to date: 36
# of gift cards still needed: 894
Sounds like a lot, right? But I’m not worried. Many kids are out of school this upcoming week — perfect time to get going on this giving opportunity. All it takes is $10, a card or piece of paper, and a stamp to make a teen’s Christmas brighter.
I’d love to hear how you all plan to incorporate this giving project into your Thanksgiving and early Christmas celebration this year! Leave a comment!
