by Angela on March 15, 2010

As many of you know, Angela and I are HUGE fans of Dave Ramsey and his 13 week class, Financial Peace University.  Here is your chance to take a class from him for absolutely free!

At the class you will learn how to:

  • Get out of debt
  • Save for the future
  • Build wealth

Go here to sign up!  The classes are between April 5-12 all over the country and they keep adding more as they see the need.

My own personal testimony: How FPU changed my life

Four years ago my husband and I were drowning in debt in spite of us both working and earning a combined income of $70,000/year.  I then found out I was pregnant with our first child and we knew something had to change as I wanted to be a stay-at-home mom.

I continued working until the day he was born (only because he was born a month early, that’s another long and horrible story), and during my pregnancy my husband and I tried to cut back and pay down debt.  We really had no idea though how to make a budget and more importantly, how to stay on budget, so we continued to barely keep our heads above water.   It became glaringly obvious that if I was going to stay home then we would have to cut back expenses and pay down debt.

There was only one thing we could do that would accomplish those two things in a relatively short amount of time and that was to sell our house. So we did! And we’ve never regretted it. In fact, it was perfect timing as the housing bubble would burst only months after we sold our house. With the money we were able to pay off the house and all of our debt and put a large sum of money into savings for a future house.

Right around the time we were in the midst of closing the sell of our home, we signed up for Financial Peace University.  The timing, once again, was perfect.  During the 13 week course we learned Dave’s Seven Baby Steps to financial peace.  It was life changing, to say the least.  Throughout the last four years we didn’t  follow the lessons we learned like we should have, so we ended up using a large chunk of our savings from our house on unexpected expenses like another baby, major car repairs, medical expenses for our accident prone first born and a couple vacations.

Towards the end of last year, however we made the commitment to start living by the principles we learned from Dave Ramsey.  We did this by handing our debit cards over to some trusted friends thereby forcing us to stick with a cash only system (we don’t use credit cards).  These friends also created a budget on Excel which I then finally took the time to figure out how to use.   Now we have been sticking to our budget, not  using our savings and adding to it as well!  The best part is, we are still completely DEBT FREE!

So take advantage of this free lesson being offered and see how you can change your future as well!

Wow, so cool to know others in the area have also “drunk the kool aid”. We got on board the plan back in 2003 and it’s been an amazing ride!
