The Oregonian: $1 per week for 24 weeks

by Angela on March 11, 2010

The Oregonian is coming around! For a limited time you can get the weekend papers (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) for just $1 a week for the first 24 weeks. It doesn’t look like you can get multiple Sundays for $1 each, which just doesn’t make sense.

Not available in Clark County, WA. This offer is available to new customers only (haven’t subscribed to home delivery in the past 30 days) and until April 18. Do some counting and current subscribers may be able to figure out a way to take advantage of this deal…

I called them yesterday to see if I cancel my subscription and have my husband sign up if they’d do it, but they wouldn’t. : ( Bummer! That’s such a great deal!!

If you cancel today, you can sign up in 31 days, which is before this deal expires.

signed up yesterday, so much better than paying $2 even if it’s only for a while.

Does anyone know… can you cancel after the 24 weeks? I read that it goes to $30 for some odd weeks and then to $24 which is the regular rate. If I sign up I’m not locked in for more then 24 weeks right?

I canceled the former deal at the end of the promotion period with no problem. The Oregonian then called back a few days later with this particular promo.

Does anyone know the answer: can you cx your subscription after the $1 a week, when it jumps to $3??

Thanks!

So my Food Day advertisement for the weekend addition is a little different (Milwaukie).
It states that it is for the first 20 weeks at $1/wk, then jumps to $24/8wk cycle. And this promotion ends APRIL 7, 2010 (not 31 days from now)

Silly that they won’t allow multiple subscriptions. Their web site to order is janky is heck too. And they wonder why newspapers are suffering…

“Janky as heck.” I don’t know what this means, but I am seriously going to include it in my lexicon.

haha janky is my go-to word in describing something that doesn’t work the way it should :)

I just called in and they said it was $20 for 24 weeks and I could not get multiples of just Sunday but I will be getting multiples of everyday including Sunday so overall I will be paying $3.33 per week for 4 Sunday papers delivered to my home instead of going out and spending $8 each week.

Is this only valid in Portland Metro area? I would love to get this out at the coast.

I just asked for multiples and she gave it to me, so I got my 4 papers today and I look forward to 4 on Sunday as well.

I just called this morning and asked if I could increase my subscriptions at the same rate (since I knew others had gotten the deal) and the woman on the phone did it – so now I will get 4 weekend issues for $4 a week. Not bad!

oh and I don’t quite understand why, but I was only billed $20 for the 24 weeks in advance, whereas I thought it would have been $24. The woman said that was correct, though.

The sign-up here link-did not give an option for this deal-that would have been my preferred way to order!
