Yesterday I showed you all the items I picked up at TJ Maxx with my $50 gift card. Three of those items were earmarked for my laundry closet organizing project. In case you missed it, here’s what it looked like before:
The first thing I did was to take everything off the shelves, throw the garbage away, weed out the things that didn’t need to live there and wash the shelves. Here’s a picture of my husband’s box:
I still have no idea what the copper-colored sticks with duct tape were used for. And who doesn’t need goggles and a whistle in their closet area? I think dudes are funny…
Next, I took all my jewelry, formerly housed in a Stride Rite box, and put it in my new organizer.
Obviously I don’t have a lot of jewelry. My daughter loves to tell me that I’m just not fancy enough.
This is the most precious section of all:
I have the necklace that has all my kids names on it (and gives me an immediate allergic reaction when I get within two feet of it, metallic taste and all), the pearl necklace and earrings that my husband’s mother gave me from when she was little and the “fancy” box my daughter gave me for Mother’s Day a few years back.
It came with a “fancy” necklace that has now disappeared. But I’m keepin’ that box forever. Obviously.
On to the big reveal!
I was able to get rid of enough “stuff” to bring up my entire laundry stockpile from the basement!
I have all my detergent and stain remover in one spot!
The fabric bins I got from TJ Maxx now house the random laundry items and washcloths.
It truly is a thing of beauty!
Just for fun, and to keep it real, here’s a picture of the rest of the closet:
You can’t tell in the chaos, but the piles contain most of my current wardrobe, my maternity clothes and clothes my baby, Matthew, has grown out of. In addition to empty organizing containers. I don’t think a couple of pretty fabric bins from TJ Maxx will solve this problem…
