Walmart has released a new, corporate wide coupon policy and there are a couple of great changes. Here are the highlights:
1. Walmart will accept Catalina coupons from other stores. You should be able to redeem Walgreens Register Rewards and grocery store cats.
2. Walmart will give you the overage from a manufacturer’s coupon. If the value of the item is less than the coupon, you will get the overage to apply to another item in your transaction or the cash.
3. Walmart will accept competitor’s coupons that have a specific price listed. For example, you can use a Safeway coupon for $.99 Fruit Snacks. You cannot use a “$2 off Fruit Snacks” Safeway coupon. I believe that Walmart will no longer accept the $10 off $50 Safeway coupon many of us have been using. Bummer, I know.
There are other elements of the policy, but they are fairly standard. I strongly suggest you print this policy and keep it in your coupon box/binder and bust it out if you run into problems. If you’re not one to “test the waters” and don’t like confrontation, you should wait a few weeks for this policy to be introduced to your store’s cashiers and managers by more gutsy couponers.
