Have you been following my family’s journey to spend $520 at Albertsons in five days? Catch up on the first three posts here, here and here.
It’s day three of our mission to use (26) $20 Catalinas by this Friday and my husband and I completed five more transactions. I’d say we are quite stocked up on chocolate chips, nuts and tortillas.
The kids and I headed out this morning for the first two transactions of the day. We coupled it with a McDonald’s Play Land and Bi-Mart pharmacy stop, but the real purpose was to hit Albertsons.
I only had (2) $.50/2 Nestle coupons, so I didn’t get to purchase as many items as my scenario listed. It’s important to note that $2.75 for a bag of Nestle chocolate chips is not a stockpile price by any stretch of the imagination — remember, I’m playing by different rules with this challenge. I do not suggest you pay $2.75 with real money. Costco will be a better deal until the really sweet deals roll around just before Thanksgiving.

This was my daughter’s transaction (she is loving doing transactions all by herself). We didn’t have more coupons, so it was straightforward. I was going to buy one package of the Mission Tortillas ($2), but I found the Carlita tortillas (10 pk soft taco size) on sale for $1. My store only had two packages left.

My husband did the next two transactions while driving around for work.
The mozzarella cheese and Lil’ Smokies were on clearance. The Albertsons brand nuts are $2.59 each. I did forget to include a banana in the picture.

More nuts and clearanced cheese and an “impulse” Stevia in the Raw buy. I think it’s hilarious that my husband thinks purchasing Stevia is impulsive. He said he just couldn’t keep himself from buying it. Apparently he’s been waiting a long time to try it (and he’s forgotten the true pleasure of real, refined sugar).

I did the last transaction tonight with my two older kids after an evening of mall returns.
I discovered a tag advertising a “Buy 2 Mission Tortillas, Get 1 bag of Dole Iceburg Salad FREE” promotion — no coupons needed! I was planning on buying the tortillas anyway, so the salad was an unexpected bonus. I didn’t get any Sunday papers this week and luckily my Albertsons had a huge stack still available. Now I’m ready to do the General Mills FREE Milk promotion tomorrow!

I’m a little sad that we only have seven more Catalinas to use — I’m staring to get used to all this free stuff!
