Turns out the various Weekly Cinema deals were too awesome for the company to sustain and they have gone belly-up. Luckily for all of us who have taken advantage of this deal, you will not be totally out the money.
:: If you signed up for the monthly service from Weekly Cinema, you should be reimbursed for any unused tickets in your account. I encourage you to call Weekly Cinema to confirm that you are receiving a refund: 1-866-241-0510 from 10am – 5pm Pacific. I would also check your debit/credit card over the next few months to make sure you don’t get an additional charges.
If you purchased a pack of tickets from a daily deal site, you need to contact them for a refund.
:: Groupon: 877.788.7858 — Groupon has an awesome satisfaction guarantee with their certificates, so you will get your money refunded quickly.
:: Tippr: 866.347.0752 — Here’s an exerpt from an email I personally received from my contact at Tippr:
We were not prepared to handle such a massive amount of simultaneous credit and refund requests. Because of this and the fact that we are receiving fraudulent refund emails, we have to process each inquiry one by one. Some customers are asking for credits, some are asking for refunds – and we are adding support staff to get through the backlog.
Be assured that Tippr is doing everything they can to handle restoring each customer. Please contact them to pursue either a refund or a credit.
I have been extremely impressed with how Groupon and Tippr have handled this situation. They are certainly out tons of money over this situation. They have both definitely earned my business.
