I know many of you have taken advantage of the various Weekly Cinema offers on this or other sites. If you have an account, PLEASE continue to read this.
I received an email from a reader who signed up for Weekly Cinema through this blog and discovered a slightly tricky “catch.” If you do not click on the “redeem” button during the month the tickets are issued you lose them. You don’t need to actually redeem them at that time, but you need to click it for the codes to be usable for the next 90 days.
This information IS NOT available when you sign up or anywhere on the website except on the FAQ page. So basically, you have to click something that is not intuitive (“Redeem” to me means I want to redeem them now) in order to have them remain in your account the full 90 days.
Obviously, they are banking on most of you not reading the FAQ page and understanding what
“Monthly tickets will NOT accumulate if you do not click redeem on our site.”
means. I don’t have a problem with the rule. I do have a problem that the rule is buried in a web page and not disclosed when you create an account and give your debit/credit information.
Our reader lost two of her tickets and customer service would not rectify the situation, citing the “policy” outlined on the FAQ page.
UPDATE: I feel I need to clarify. Let’s say you get the 4 codes in your account in September. They will sit in your account all month. If you don’t click “Redeem,” the codes will disappear at the end of September. If you do click “Redeem,” even if you’re not planning to actually use the codes at that moment, they will remain in your account for 90 days and you can actually redeem them at Fandango.com anytime during that 90 days.
If you have a Weekly Cinema account, please log in immediately and click the red “Redeem” button. Want to know another trick? You have to click the “Redeem” button for each ticket that is in your account (that’s, at least, what I had to do). Keep clicking until the “Redeem” button no longer appears and instead reads, “You don’t have any available tickets to redeem this month.”
I’ll let you decide if you want to continue with your account and you will remember to click “Redeem” each month. If so, this offer is still a good deal — you can’t beat a movie ticket for $5. If you’d like to cancel, click the “Cancel Me’ link at the top.
