Zaycon Foods, a Northwest company that sells larger quantity boxes of fresh meat at a volume discount, is coming to the Oregon and Washington area in a few weeks. You will be able to order a 40 pound box of boneless, skinless chicken breast for just $1.64 a pound ($65.60 total).
Here’s how to take advantage of this deal:
:: Go to Zaycon Foods right now and create an account. You should receive a reminder email that the sale is live.
:: Starting tomorrow (6/3) at 4:00 pm, log into your Zaycon account and order your box (or boxes) of chicken. The chicken will be delivered to sometime between June 10-16 — specific delivery dates, times and locations will posted when the sale goes live at 4:00 pm Pacific tomorrow.
I imagine this sale will sell out quickly, so make sure you’re ready to order tomorrow afternoon. Please note that the Oregon and Washington sales will not be listed until tomorrow (6/3) at 4:00 pm, but I suggest you register now. You are under no obligation to purchase anything if you create an account, but you will be notified of upcoming sales.
For those of you who are new to Zaycon, you will go to the delivery location at the specified time, roll through the parking lot and pick up your box o’ chicken. You don’t have to leave your car.
It’s important to note that this is fresh (never frozen) chicken packaged differently than you are used to getting at the grocery store or Costco. Each box contains four plastic bags with 10 pounds of chicken each. Once you get home, you will have to do a bit of fat trimming, which is easy with a knife or pair of kitchen shears. You will then have to either prepare freezer meals or package the chicken in meal sized portions and freeze them. It took me about two hours to wash, trim and package my chicken the last time I purchased the box. I kind of felt like Caroline Ingalls…okay, not really. I was watching TV the entire time.
The chicken does not contain added hormones, additives or artificial ingredients and is fresh (never been frozen). This chicken is similar to regular grocery store chicken breast and is not organic.
Zaycon Foods is planning to deliver chicken breast again in the fall. If your family won’t use 40 pounds of chicken over the summer and early fall, split the box with a friend or two! Go here to create your Zaycon account.
