Zaycon: Fresh boneless, skinless chicken breast for $1.89/lb (Oregon only)

Zaycon Foods, a Northwest company that sells larger quantity boxes of fresh meat and vegetables at a volume discount, is coming to Oregon delivering boneless, skinless chicken breast! This sale will probably sell out quickly (within a couple of days), so I suggest you place your order as quickly as possible

Chicken Breast — (4) 10 lb bags of chicken @ $1.89/lb = $75.60

We have purchased Zaycon’s chicken breast in the past and have been very pleased with it. The chicken comes in four 10 pound bags, so it’s fairly easy to split with friends and family. It’s important to note that you will have to “process” the chicken before you cook or freeze it. It takes about an hour for one person to rinse, split the breasts, trim the fat and put the 40 pounds of chicken in freezer containers. It does not look like Foster Farms chicken you buy at Costco straight from the box (but it does after a few seconds of work on your part :)). The chicken breast is comparable to grocery store chicken — no hormones, additives but it is not organic or free range.

For those of you who are new to Zaycon, you will go to the delivery location at the specified time, roll through the parking lot and pick up your chicken. You don’t have to leave your car.

I purchased the chicken for the first time this month, and they have a lot of fat. I am not too impressed with it. The pieces are huge but they are also a bit tough. My middle child keeps saying we’re eating rooster not hen. I don’t know, but I am definitely not a huge fan of trimming, bagging and preparing chicken for cooking. I’d rather buy the economy bags of skinless, boneless chicken from the grocery store.

Ive gotten the chicken four times in two years and never have a problem with lots of fat. I was surprised to read the comments about how much fat there was.

we have bought the chicken 2 times before from Zaycon and have not had a problem with the chicken being fatty. We also buy boneless, skinless chicken breast when they are on sale at Albertsons for $1.88/lb…which it was this week. I’m not sure we will order again from Zaycon if the price doesn’t go down again. Also, does anyone know if just frozen chicken has salt water added to it? Or what the cost comparison is on fresh vs. frozen chicken (are you getting the same weight of chicken that has been thawed out and the added salt water has melted as you would with fresh chicken?) I hope that makes sense!!

I love this chicken. With it being fresh I can prep it any way I want. I make cubes, and my own ground, I even pre add taco seasoning to it and then portion it out, wrap it in wax paper and then put it in a vacuum seal bag.

I am on the fence about the price of the chicken. The last batch I got was fatty, and that made me sad. And I think I agree that if we are “frugal” about it we can get the chicken at the same price or cheaper on sale. I love their ground beef though. Perhaps it was a fluke on the fatty chicken part but it makes me nervous.

I think fat level must be really variable. The one time I bought it, it was fattier than any chicken I’ve bought at the store. Other people seem to have a different experience.

I have purchased Zycon chicken three times now. It seems like the quality drops with each purchase. !st was great, 2nd, not bad, and this last batch not good at all. I agree with Twin Mom, that it varies. At that price point, I am not willing to risk it this go around.

I completely agree with you! I have purchased the Zaycon chicken 4 times now, and it seems to be getting worse every time. The last time I purchased it (in January) there was so much fat on it, I think I threw away at least 10 pounds of fat! With the price being raised this time, I think that I’m going to skip it. I can’t wait until I get their blueberries and peaches, though. Got them last year and they were worth it.

I bought the peaches too. By far the best peaches. I can each year and would pick my own. Zaycon had the best peaches I have ever purchased.

I have never done the chicken, but got peaches last year! They were gorgeous and delicious. So worth it! Keep your eyes for that sale later in the summer!

I love the Zaycon chicken. It has the same amount of fat as any chicken I have bought in the store. I am not sure on the costco chicken but normally meat is frozen before being sent to the store and Zaycon has never been frozen. ps. I love the quality and price of the hamburger as well.

Yeah, I think I’m gonna start going costco’s route now too – They raised the price (pretty sure it used to be $1.49/lb, at the $1.89 price I can usually get some for $1.88/lb at alberstons when they have their in ad coupon.

I definitely prefer Costco- with the amount of fat on my chicken breasts, it turned out to be cheaper, too.

Zaycon is the only supplier I just disagree with frugallivingnw about, for those who are on the fence.

Does anyone know what the price is on Costco’s frozen chicken tenderloins? I’m wondering if it’s worth it to go with Zacon or just do Costco? Not a huge fan of fondling raw meat lol
