If you are refilling your cartridges at Walgreens or buying them at a office supply store, you paying way too much.
Office Depot sells the black ink for my printer (Canon Pixma i2000) for $6.99 and color for $17.99. The online store my family uses to buy ink (Abacus Private Store) costs $1.49 for a black cartridge and color is $1.65. Shipping is a flat $4.99. We usually buy a large quantity for our two printers to maximize the shipping fee.
Of course, I’m not comparing apples to apples. Abascus Private sells “Canon Compatible” cartridges and Office Depot is offering actual Canon products. Honestly, I can’t tell a difference, especially when printing coupons and documents.

If you are looking to just try these “compatible” (generic) brands out, try databazaar.com. All their products qualify for free shipping and their cartridges are competitively priced. The cost for my printer is $3.85/black and $4.05/color. If you set up an account, Data Bazaar will email you a code for $5 off a $50 purchase.
