Amazon has dropped the price of the 2016 Roku to $34.99. This is the lowest price this model has been.
My husband researched the differences between the 2016 and previous Roku editions and the primary, and significant difference, is processing speed. The 2016 has a new Quad Core processor so your shows load faster and stream more smoothly. Like eight times faster than previous models.
- Powerful quad-core processor and fast dual-band wireless. 8x more processing power than before.
- Access to Amazon, VUDU, Netflix, Hulu, Google Play, and more.
- Portable for different HDTVs in your home, hotel, and dorm rooms.
- Unbiased search results across top channels to find where it’s free or cheapest to watch.
Okay, now on to the inevitable question: Should you get the Roku or the Amazon Fire Stick?
If you only had one, you would love your life. But if you had both and used them regularly you would start to notice a couple of differences. We have both the Roku and the Fire Stick and use them regularly on different TVs. We have come to prefer the Roku.
Here’s why: When you search for a show that you want to watch, Roku will give you unbiased options. So, if you search for “Doc McStuffins” Roku will tell you all the places you can watch it with the apps you have loaded. If you search “Doc McStuffins” on the Fire Stick, Amazon will give preference to their system’s options and you have to weed through the pay options.
So, we like Roku’s search function better.
Anyway, if you have a choice, go with price. If the price is the same, go for this Roku stick priced at $34.99.
