TJ Maxx contacted me way back in November and asked if I would like to check out their selection of Christmas decorations. I accepted their offer and then proceeded to never make it to the store. I just couldn’t bring myself to take “these people” into the store with me (One of the pet names for my children. Used when I say things like, “I just can’t take ‘these people’ with me anywhere!”).
TJ Maxx graciously extended my “time line” and I finally hit the store last Saturday! I really wanted to be able to browse the aisles without distractions, as that’s half the fun with TJ Maxx — discovering all the great finds!
I was given a $50 gift card and I gave myself two rules on what I could buy with the $50:
1. It had to be something we legitimately needed OR
2. It had to be a really good deal — one that I would buy even if I was using my own money
I could only drum up three items that we really needed. First, size 4T underwear for my three-year old son. I did find a moderately sized selection of toddler/little boy underwear, but they were priced higher than the ones I found at Target. I purchased a three-pack of Mickey and a three-pack of Thomas undies for $4.99 each. Target had a seven-pack of Mickey’s for $9.99, so, TJ Maxx was not the best option in this area.
Next, we needed a larger sized rug to put in front of our wood stove to catch all the ashes and wood crumbs. I purchased one from Walmart for $12.99 a few weeks ago, but it turned out to be way too small. I was able to find the perfect sized rug at TJ Maxx for $14.99.

I think TJ Maxx won this challenge. The carpet is much larger for $2 more and I like the pattern more. I would definitely have purchased this rug with my own money!
Last, I’ve never had even moderate quality cupcake pans in our home. I purchase two from the dollar store a few years ago, but those bad boys rusted after one wash. I was able to find this awesome tin for only $6.99. It’s really heavy and I think it will last for a very long time.
Unfortunately, they only had one and it drives me CRAZY to not have matching sets. But I set my crazy aside and just purchased it.
On to the stuff that I didn’t need, but still got at a fantastic price!
I have been wanting to organize my laundry closet shelves for quite a while. There’s still tons of infant items stored up there and that baby is now a toddler, tantrums and all. There’s also random electrical items crammed in spaces (oh, the life of a contractor’s wife…). So time to clean it up!
Okay, not everything is the baby’s and the husband’s. Here’s a picture of the “folding” shelf. Those are my clothes that my mother lovingly folded for me last weekend.
I picked up these two fabric bins clearanced to $7 each and a matching jewelry box for $6 (I don’t have a pic of just the box). I do love pretty organizational items.
Come back tomorrow to see how these containers (and a lot of decluttering!) transformed by laundry/closet shelves!
