Check out Howard’s trip last Friday for just $33.37! Here’s what he had to say about it:

I virtually never make a large enough purchase there to use a $10 off on $50 coupon, but the planets all lined up for me.

I got:

  • 4 Foster Farms fryers, average 5.5 lbs each
  • 8.3 pounds of top sirloin
  • 3 loaves of Buttertop bread
  • All-American sub ($5 Friday)
  • 2 jugs of Aloha Morning drink
  • French bread

This remodeled store has been having unique weekly specials that other stores don’t have, including a frequent $10 off on $50 cpn.  They have the steak for $2.99 as well as the $.79 chicken all the stores have.  I also had some J4U deals such as $4 off of $40, 15% off of Rancher’s Reserve meat, $1.04 French bread, $.99 buttertop bread.  I used 2 mfr cpns on the Hawaiian Punch but the cashier doubled four.  Even saved $.10 per loaf of bread because of daughter’s employee discount tied to my club card that we share.

After all was said and done, I paid $36.12.  My total after store discounts but before coupns was $50.12!  Then I discovered that not all my steak packages were discounted 15%, so they gave back $2.75 in cash.  If their system had worked properly, I would have had to add more stuff to make $50.

Thanks, Howard! Nice work!

Safeway doubles most manufacturer’s coupons to to $.50 each in Oregon and SW Washington.

Nice Howard & thanks for sharing. I too never spend $50, but some time ago I laboriously tried to make it work-as there were many items on sale & was just a little short & come to find out, milk didn’t count! After that I have to say, I haven’t tried again-but Good for you 🙂 (yes you deserve a smiley face).

Thanks for the smiley face, Charo; that and $2.50 will get me onto a Tri-Met bus! 🙂

Someone tore out all the salad cpns from the in-store produce booklets, and I hadn’t printed any from the online source.

Probably the one on Barbur in SW, there have been $10 off $50 coupons almost every week.

Where do they have the $10/$50 Qs? Are they just taking it off at the register?

It has been in the Barbur Safeway ad that comes in the newspaper on Wednesdays. I have also noticed prices bring different on certain items at this location vs. others.

Which Safeway store are you talking about?

Yes, it’s the remodeled store on SW Barbur Blvd at Capitol Hill Rd (NOT Capitol Hwy). The front page of their weekly ad has been differing from the generic one, most weeks. For example, the sliced bread was $.99 vs $1.49; steak was $2.99 vs $3.99. They reopened in early November, but continue to offer unique specials. OK with me.
